Subject: SMML15/11/97VOL001 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INDEX 1. WELCOME 2. Big E Hangar Bay ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Greg Subject: Welcome Hi All, Thanks for Subscribing! This is the first volume, so things will be a little slow until we get more people on the list. And as you all know, the only way to get things moving is to start posting!! As I mentioned on the posting you all saw on the newsgroup, it seems a lot of people are Building The Tamiya Big E at the moment (Including Me), and not everybody is having success tracking down suitable referance material. For some reason, A reply I made to somebody on the newsgroup appears to have been blown WAY out of proportion - I simply wrote "when you get started, drop me a line and I will send you some scans", Today I got a letter from a guy in Holland who wants me to post him "All of my Over 1000 Images"?? So before things get to out of hand, I have a moderate collection of pictures of the Big E, which I have downloaded from the public domain - which most of you would probly have already, and a bunch of pics of Airwing 17 (I think) which are quiet good. I do have a friend serving on The Enterprise, who has taken a whole bunch of snaps, which (If and When they ever arrive) I will make available to you all - No Sweat! I also have some pictures in books which are useful, & I am trying to get permission to make those available to. Undoubtedly, the best on Line source for Pics Of The E, are at the Big E Home page. http://www.ncts.navy.mil/homepages/cvn65/ And http://www.biomedical.com/~bige/ And a homepage dedicated to the Tamiya 1/350 Model http://www.djaymedia.com/cvn65/ In constructing my model, so far the best book I have found is "USS ENTERPRISE - In Detail and Scale" by Kalmbach Publishing, It has lots of really good photo's, this book is extremely helpful for those who intend to scratch build a hangar bay into the kit. (Sorry to bore all those of you who are already aware of these facts) Its also worth visiting the Floating Drydocks Website, They have a lot of really great stuff available as well. http://www.usbusiness.com/drydock/ And NAVIS Magazine has some photo's of the model to, http://navismagazine.com/ That's about all I am sitting on as far as online stuff goes, so now its just a matter of figuring out what each of your individual problems are and then offering solutions as a group. If you have any other sources of info which I haven't mentioned here, please let us all know. Greg Lee (Listmaster - ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Greg Subject: Big E Hanger bay Hi, I am still playing around with the fibre optic lighting system in my Big E kit, and was wondering if any of you have any experiance in this area. What is the best way to attach the cable to a light source? The few methods I have tried resulted in a considerable meltdown, so I really want to get this right, cos once I glue it into the ship, I dont want to have to pull it back out - and I especially don't want to melt the Hull or my Hangar Bay Ceiling/Flight Deck.
