Hi I've got three things "on the bench" at the moment - 1. Airfix 1:160? HMS Prince sailing warship. Re-issued this year and something that is going to take a while. Trying to hunt down blocks, etc small enough. 2. Revell 1:80-ish Yacht "America". It will be BIG, over 15" long for the hull alone. Trying to think how to detail it, hunting down photos etc. Any web sites you know of, please. Also any hints for getting the deck to look like wood gratefully received (short of replacing it with wood of course). 3. Truly Mammoth model of the Titanic in card that my youngest son was given. It's 1:200 and works out at 56 inches long. It's very well done and going great. My son is doing the cutting and I am doing the gluing. You get every ventilator and ladder, all the lifeboats are 3D and it's going to take ages! As to where to keep it afterwards.... I would like to exchange information with other modellers who are building these ships too. That helps! Now on to question #2. I want to get hold of Tom' Modelworks P/E sheet for the Big E. What's the best way? Order directly through Tom's or is there another better way? Also for those interested in sub's, I live in southeastern Connecticut. For you sub guys, the USS Nautilus museum is located at the US Sub Base NLON. It's not a huge museum, but it's got some nice pieces in addition to the Nautilus. If I can be of any help regarding something there, you know, like photos or something, just let me know and I'll see what I can do. I've only had three minor problem areas with it. First is getting rid of the toy-like "moving parts" features that interfer with a proper assembly sequence for painting. It's also *lots* of fun setting up a jig to mark the color demarcation between the upper and lower hull. Lastly, I don't much like the DML decals, but I was lucky enough to be able to get a sheet from the Testors release. Sure would appreciate any tips re accuracy of the kit before I get too far along... >> I am interested in what gave you the impression you couldn't talk about that... << Well, I also build cars, armor, aircraft, and figures. Didn't think anyone on this list would want to hear about those! I'm just finishing a conversion of a WWII era destoryer to a DMS in the 50's. I've just started a Type IX Uboat and I am stalled on the BB New Jersey 1980's era. << Perhaps I can help with the NJ. I worked on her during her refit in '82, & have deck & antenna arrangement prints from the shipyard (LBNSY). BTW, I built this kit (& the Enterprise, too) & liked them very much. Bronov" Subject: Re: What are you building at the moment? >> What are you building at the moment? << Currently I've got about four projects 'in the ways'. The first two, that really take most of my time, are wooden ships, and as such, their discussion belongs to another list (don't they?). In addition to them though, I'm working on Blue Water Navy's 1/350 Sturgeon class attack boat. It's almost done, only requiring sail details and markings. A pretty good kit, so far as I can tell - it is my first resin, so I don't have anything to compare it to. My last project is Skywave's 1/700 Knox class. About 50% done with it, and stalled until I can get some brass for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Greg Subject: USS New Jersey Hi Dale, Will you be making copies of these prints available to the list subscribers (either by scans or snailmailed actual copies) or will you just be providing people with information from them? Greg (Listmaster) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Greg Subject: Re: RMS Titanic (David Hathaway) Hi David 1/200 Titanic - sounds awesome! What label does she come under? In Card means? I am about 30% into Academy's 1/350 Titanic but boxed it up due to the fact it doesn't have any 16Inch Guns! I will get back to it one day when I finish building Battleships. I Have a lot of Material on Her if you Get stuck, Like most People, The Titanic Fascinated me as a kid, and is what origionally got me interested in vessels Greg (Listmaster) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Greg Subject: WANTED: Floquil Stains : Driftwood & Walnut Hi , I want to try Loren Perry's approach to "Wood Decking", For those of you who haven't seen it, check out his Model of the Arizona on the NAVIS page. Unfortunately - I can't get my hands on Floquil stains, so If anybody would like to receive a Cheque in the mail from me for some, Please let me know!
