They are 11 x 17. The others are quite large. I will have to get them reduced. I do have a favor due me at work, though. If I get all of this done, I will be able to e-mail or snail mail any or all. Some of the prints are for the Missouri, but I believe there were only minor differences between the ships. I have never compared the prints. BTW, the ship's call sign (for the signal halyard) was NJBB. It makes a nice touch. I believe the "Mo" was NBMO. It should be obvious why those were chosen. Thanks Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Terry Sumner" Subject: Big E colors Okay fellow modelers, help me out here. The Tamiya instruction book lists the colors using THEIR paints for the 1/350 Enterprise. But what would the FS number equivalents be for the various parts. I'm using Tamiya's Hull Red for the bottom, but what about the rest of the ship? Thanks in advance, Terry "If you're not making any mistakes, you're probably not building anything." Terry Sumner IPMS 35079 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Greg Subject: Re: Big E colors Terry, I found the Tamiya colors where over all to dark, straight out Hull Red is more suited to IJN vessels, You might want to ad some normal red to it to brighten it up some, also I found 2 or 3 parts white to 1 part Light grey (Tamiya colors) gave me that "Light blue in direct light - dark grey in darker light" look that all the U.S. ships seem to have. I used German Grey on the Flight Deck and In the hangar - I think the Book Says "Dark Grey"? and Off White for the Hangar Walls with a German Grey Band at the bottom. I did the the Tie Down points in Middle grey cos I Think the white is to much. As far as equivalents go? Hope this helps some. Its A4 size, about 6 pages of Titanic info and story and the middle pages are sheets of cardboard that have the printed shapes on them. Lots of bits and the model is technically well thought out. I can get the ISBN number and publisher details if you want. I have got the hull together, all the decks/superstructure in place (mainly so it is structurally sound) and am now working on the ventilators, hatches, cranes, lifeboats, etc. Still got the funnels and masts to do, will probably do them last so I can rig them while I'm at it. My son has just about lost interest in it. They came out pretty well after some research and lots of detailing. Some three months ago Corel's HMS Victory in 1/98 (excellent wood kit with lots of goodies) left my dockyard in very fine shape. BTW, if you are interested in building any HMS Victory model, be sure you have at least THE BOOK: C. Nepean Longridge's; The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships. At the moment I'm about to start Heller's HMS Victory in 1/100 (no it's not for myself but for a friend who wants one assembled). I think I'll replace at least the decks with new wooden ones. Should be a walk in a park after the Corel kit. For myself my next naval project will be Tamiya's CVN-65 Big-E with the GMM aftermarket works and needed scratch for this magnificent kit. Any comments/hints/advice/help concerning Heller's Victory, Tamiya's Enterprice and respective aftermarket products are more than wellcome. I'm currently working on a 1:96 Tribal destroyer. I want to build her as the Ashanti in '41, love the five-tone camouflage pattern, but I'm having no luck at finding the port-side pattern. If worse comes to worst, she'll end up as Zulu. I've got plenty to keep me busy in the mean time. I'm about half way through with my master for the twin 4.7-in. mount and its shield, I've still got the twin 4-in. and quad-.50 mounts to go. Luckily I found a fairly decent quad 2-pdr., so that won't have to be from scratch. Does anyone kmow where I might locate good drawings, preferably 1:100, of the Hayate? She was one of the older, well-decked destroyers, I believe of the Kamikaze class. Anybody on this list old enough to remember the Warships in Profile series out of England in the early 1970's? I think they make good reading and have been able to acquire bound volumes I, II, and III. On the dust cover of Volume III mention is made of a forth-coming Volume IV. Has anyone ever seen this? Was it ever published before Profile Publishing went out of business? Now for a chuckle: if Volume IV exists, and if anyone on this list has it, would you consider selling it? Thanks, Bob Steinbrunn Minneapolis ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: McKellar Subject: Re: USS Nautilus Museum >> the USS Nautilus museum is located at the US Sub Base NLON. It's not a huge museum, but it's got some nice pieces in addition to the Nautilus. If I can be of any help regarding something there, you low, like photos or something, just let me know and I'll see what I can do. << Terry I've been there too (live north of Boston) The last time I went the museum was closed but there was no guard at the gate so we drove right onto the submarine base. My 7 year old and I walked around, looked at the subs, and the displays they have outside some of the buildings - great stuff! >> Perhaps I can help with the NJ. I worked on her during her refit in '82, & have deck & antenna arrangement prints from the shipyard (LBNSY). BTW, I built this kit (& the Enterprise, too) & liked them very much. << Dale, sounds great - can you post or send copies?
