(not actually stated on box or instructions) Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Dan Goodpasture" Subject: List suggestions BTW, great list...I was hoping for something like this soon. Regarding any suggestions the subscribers may have: (1) Let's stick to models of modern, powered ships. The sailing ships are already well served by the fine seaways group. (2) I'd like to see the messages posted individually, though I realize this may not be feasible or ever preferable to some. (3) A little advertising wouldn't bother me a bit, it can be difficult for this relatively small segment of the modelling world to find news about new releases, etc. (4) IMO, don't limit the size of the group. I'd guess there's a lot of guys out there like me that are fairly new to ship-modelling, and while they may have little to add to the discussion, do read everything to get info. (5) Get Loren Perry and Jon Warneke! and, (6) Keep up the good work! Lastly, thanks for putting this together. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Greg Subject: Re: List suggestions Hey Dan, In Reply to your Suggestions: 1) I agree - Nothing wind powered here! 2) This is up to you guys, but let me point out - Individual posting means I move the list up to an Automatic Server, which means No Manual moderation, in other terms, the growing number of get rich quick scams, XXX advertising and Flames I get and discard for you daily would be automatically deposited into your mailbox - everyday! You're choice! I know the list may appear bulky now, but at least your getting only what you subscribed for - you're address isn't be distributed to junk mail advertisers. You just get one message daily, concerned only with Ship Models! 3) Advertise away! (White Ensign - Here's your Chance!) 4) At this stage the group will be unlimited - only when you guys write me saying its getting out of hand, we will look at numbers 5) I actually thought of "accidently" putting his address on the recipients list, It would sure be great to have him aboard. I haven't mailed him about the list yet, perhaps you all could send me a message saying "Where's Loren" and I will bunch them all up and send them to him A-LA-Petition format demanding he subscribe - what could he say? 6) Thanks - I love doin it fo ya! All other comments from other subscribers on this subject would be greately appreciated! Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: LAXET@aol.com Subject: New Jersey Plans (progress report) Ok gang, here's the latest scoop. I have had all of the largest plans reduced to X x 14". I didn't want to go any smaller for fear of losing detail. The problem is my scanner is 11" long. So I need to wait until I go back to work (12/3) before I can scan them. Half of them were on silver type paper, so they will be dark. I'm hoping to clean them up some once scanned. In any case, I can now photo copy all of them. There are 24 pages total. Obviously, I can't sell these since they belong (officially) to the US Govt. However, I think repo & shipping costs should be ok. I will charge what it costs me, for those wanting hard copies, payable upon delivery. I think the "For Official Use Only" classification ought to be expired by now, since the ships are decommissioned. Anybody interested can e-mail me & tell me what format they want. Hard copy will probably be only a couple of dollars. In any event, nothing will go into the mail (e or snail) until probably the middle of Dec. Also maybe you could (on the digest) let me know how large of a file is best (they will be zipped), balancing detail with size. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Thanks Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: BatlWagon@aol.com Subject: Gato Class Submarines Hi All! I thought I would put my .02 worth in on this list and see what I get. I have recently found a great interest in US Fleet Boats. I am working on the Tom's Modelworks Gato, and the Revell Lionfish right now. I have found the Tom''s Gato to be a bit too small for me to work with in 1/350 scale. Mounting the deck cleats was a huge burden on my patience! Overall I like this kit, though. I really liked the periscope shears, made up from photo etched brass and plastic rod. It looks very realistic! The Lionfish is a bit more to my liking, size-wise, but as most of you know, it leaves a bit to be desired as far as details go. I am scratchbuilding the conning tower and periscope, backdating kit to Gato, SS-212. The only reason I am doing this version, is because there are less limber holes to open up! Now, to the meat of my message. I have been considering the Combat Models, 1/72 scale Fleet Boat. I have built a Combat TBM Avenger, 1/32 scale, so I know just what thier kits are like. My question is, have any of you seen this kit, assembled or not, and what did you think of it? I will be using HR Fittings, in white metal and resin, for the details of this boat. The Floating Drydock carries these parts in 1/72scale. I think this would make a very impressive model, at 52" in length! It is also less expensive than buying Warship Hulls Unlimited's 1/96 hull. Thanks for any who can help! "Clear the bridge! Dive! Dive! Rick ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
