Subject: SMML29/11/97VOL015 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INDEX 1: Re Arizona(?), Survey 2: Re: USS ARIZONA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Sue & Ben Subject: Re: Arizona(?), Survey Hi Greg, >> . . . ] although I would really love to have the Arizona book, by the time I get the currency changed, pay the fee's and shipping, a $40 book can cost me $70-$80. << Do yourself a favor and check out Amazon.com, it's worth it. I recently ordered Friedman's "U.S. Battleship, An IlIustrated Design History" (N.I.P.) from them. I ended up paying the U.S.$ list price, shipping included. If that doesn't sound too good keep in mind I was paying in Canuck$ which is worth about the same as the Aussie$ on currency exchanges! (ie. the book is listed at about 62$US and I ended up paying about 63$Cdn). Hoo-ah! Secondly, I'm glad you haven't had time to compile the survey results yet because I'm late sending my vote in. This po' boy got confused by that flip side of the international dateline thing. I say the list should limit itself to plastic/resin models and modern subjects (ie. post sail). OTOH this isn't a very strongly held view so, in a bit of Clintonesque waffling, I don't really mind if other subject/materials get included. Cheers Ben My friends call me the Dictator of the Universe....I think they're mocking me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 From: Greg Subject : USS ARIZONA Hey, Well I started scribbing off the moulded on railing today, I had 3 slippages, with unwanted scribes through the hull, and one very unwanted scribe through my right index finger (YEOUCH!!!) I found the 2 hull halfs terribly matched, and It took a lot of effort and putty to get a decent seal. As mentioned yesterday, the plastic is very soft, and filing was to much, I found even a fine 800 grade sandpaper was taking away a lot of plastic. I made up a nice mix of Tamiya flat red with a dash of Hull red just to take the "RED" out of it, I have switched back to enamels as I found Acrylic Impossible to brush. I have decided to go straight out of the bottle Tamiya Light Grey for the Hull and Super Structure. I can't do much with the decks until I get some stains, but I am gonna try and mount some of those cool GMM P/E Rails to the Bow section tonight, It wont interfere with mounting the main deck (I Hope) I have kinda gone cold On my Big E - I put so many hrs into it, but never seem to get much done, so I will put that aside for a while and start back on the small stuff - I also have a 1/700 Waterline Yamato I Might start playing with to. Anyways, for those of you who are here, have a great night! Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
