I found the kit is made by Glenco now (maybe revell kit). BTW - Where is she? Philadelphia and yes, I did "snap" her. Looks awful but huge.... Anybody interested, drop us a note! << Any chance you could email or post some of these? Mark ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Terry Sumner" Subject: Re Big E Hey Greg, Yeah, I'm interested in ANYTHING relating to the Big E. How can I see them? Terry Sumner ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Gene Larson Subject: Book Reviews Book reviews are a good idea. However, there is already a web site that does some. I have it listed on our web site source list, but haven't checked it lately for content. No sense in competing with and duplicating another site. But, the books reviewed here on this list might be sufficiently different to make it work. If so, I vote in favor. The site is: John Kohnen Nautical Literature Page Book Reviews http://www.cyber-dyne.com/~jkohnen/naut-lit.html http://www.cyber-dyne.com/~jkohnen/books/book_reviews.html Gene Larson Nautical Research Guild, Inc Alexandria, Virginia mailto:genenrg@Naut-Res-Guild.org http://www.Naut-Res-Guild.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Dave Carter Subject: Re: SS United States Hi Mark, The Revell United States was re-released as a special run about 12 months ago..we never saw any over here though. That, of course, was 1/600 Scale. The 1/400 Scale kit you were referring to has now been (inexpensively at £42.52) released by Glencoe. However, I have to be honest, this is pretty basic but as it can be R/C d is popular with the "Floaty Boaties" as they are affectionately known over here. I am no merchant officianado, but have been told that if you appreciate that you have the bare bones here for a model, with considerable surgery and massive super-detailing you could have yourself a good representation. Also, it is not true scale. However, re. etched brass detailing, there are no 4-and 5-Bar rails available for this model..your only choice really is to use the GMM 1/350 Merchant set which, of course is 14% overscale, but a whole lot better than the moulded on representations.. If you CAN get the Revell kit is a better product. You also have the GMM 1/600 Merchant set which will provide you with rails etc. Yes, we would like to know where she is. We thought she'd gone to Turkey? I only have access to island and hangar pics, so if you want anything specific in these areas, let me know. Cheers Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Greg Subject: Re: USS New Jersey Plans Hey Dale, I was just wondering how the copies were comin along? Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Greg Subject: Re Book Reviews Hi Gene, I have just checked out John Kohnen Nautical Literature Page Book Reviews http://www.cyber-dyne.com/~jkohnen/naut-lit.html http://www.cyber-dyne.com/~jkohnen/books/book_reviews.html I found mostly fiction stories - so It may not be useful to all of us. Although there is a section of Non-Fiction for the Woodies. (pre 1900 era vessels) Do you know of any archive of reviews on more Reference/Fact based Plans and photo's kinda books? If not, I think we shoulds start something. What do you think? Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
