We thought she'd gone to Turkey? << Thanks for the input on the United States Yes she was in Turkey but now is in Philadelphia, USA. There is a web page for her with some current pics: http://207.140.91.2/ssunited/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Dave Carter Subject: Re: Book Reviews Hi Greg... I agree with Gene. Book reviews would be a good idea. We are certainly avid book collectors, as are most of our friends in the hobby..you can never have too much research (that's my excuse anyway!) and I believe that sharing this sort of information would be great. If anyone wants pics or info scanning and E-Mailing to them, of refs in any out of print titles we may have (and we DO have thousands in our personal library), then please just ask...as long as it doesn't involve damaging the spine e.g with a double page scan! I will probably copy these this weekend. So far, only one person has expressed any interest at all (that would be you, Greg). So I'll get them out probably this weekend. I am in the process of building both a type XXI and a type VII U-Boat and need some help. I need to know which free flood holes in the hull would have been see-through...ie: which ones would have an unobstructed view through both sides of the hull without being cut off by pipes, pressure hull etc.... Also I need to know if the type VIIb had holes in the bottom of the saddle tanks for flooding / blowing and where they were located / what they were shaped like.... I am aware that the anatomy of the ship series books cover's both these, but have found both book to be out of print and impossible to find. Anyone have them and want to do some scanning??? or better yet...know where I can get them? Thanks in advance....and keep up the great list... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Gene Larson Subject: Book Review archive I say do it. We publish several book reviews in each issue of the Journal, but very seldom on the books related to the emphasis on this discussion list, and I see very few in the model magazines. Plastic Ship Modeler has some book comments, and the IPMS occasionally. I don't recall any in Fine Scale Modeler. Next job is to get the reviewers recruited and started reading and writing. I just got Tamiya's 1/72 PT-15, its quiet impressive to I might add, and it was supplied with a bright yellow string to run through the stanchions for railing rope, Bright Yellow? Surely that can't be right? I thought may'be a Black or Grey? Anybody know for sure? Greg (Listmaster) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Greg Subject: In Responce Hi, Just a few short notes in responce to tonights list, Caroline (WEM), I was just wondering where we stand on copyright as far as scanning a page from a book and privately e-mailing it to each other? I have a lot I could offer the subscribers, just like you guys, I just fear an infringement? Are you familiar with the copyright acts? BTW - Santa is bringing me Tamiya's King George and Prince of Wales, What have you got for me Railing and Error Correction wise? Dale - Their loss! I'm in! - Can't wait actually - I Live for the IOWA's!! Gene - The Book review Idea seems to have been an extraordinary hit, like the list itself, it just highlights the ever-apparent LACK of easy to find, freely available, and reliable info for the model ship-builder. I was thinking along with the book review archive, I might also start a photograph archive, I know I have a lot of pics of quiet a few different ships, as most of us do - perhaps we could help each other out by making them available to subscribers only in a general archive? What do ya'll think? Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
