Subject: SMML05/12/97VOL020 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INDEX 1: Re: Raven vs. Walkowiak 2: Re: New Books 3: Re: Photo Archive 4: Re: Photo Archive ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: Raven vs. Walkowiak For virtually unquestioned accuracy, I'd go with Raven, for the reasons cited (chief among these being that he's working with actual paint chips). Now, that said, those "notable differences" in the Munsell numbers really aren't all that notable, particularly when most modellers lighten paints to allow for the scale effect. If you have the 1929 Munsell Book of Color in hand (and I do), the differences in the numbers cited by Raven and Walkowiak are often very difficult to discern, since a one-number difference in chroma or hue is very slight. My bottom line: choose Raven for scholarship, currency, and his access to actual chips. My 2 cents worth, John Snyder ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: witsie/ken mckelvy Subject: Re: New Books For IJN fans two new books are coming out. First, USNI has started shipping their book on Japanese Cruisers. At U.S.$75.00, it's pricey, but worth every cent. Haven't received mine yet, but a friend has and I've had a chance to look it over: 800+ pages and covers everything from the scout cruisers of the 8-8 program through the Agano and Oyodo types. Some of photos you'll have seen before, but some were new (to me, at least), lots of drawings, including details, a wealth of information. If you have seen the articles that appeared in Warship International (from 1977-1984 - or thereabouts) on the A-Type crisers, you'll have some idea of what the book is like. While $75 is a lot, you'll not get so much info at less than $10/100 pages anywhere else. Second, Conway is bringing out a volume on FUSO in their Anatony of the Ship series. I believe it's by the same author as did the TAKAO earlier. This is scheduled for release in March 1998. HTH, Al ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Greg Subject: Re; Photo Archive Al, We'll, I can certainly help you with that, to get your ship section afloat:-) Just let me know how much room you have and what you want and I will send you some stuff - no probs there! I will mail you off the list to discuss details! Cheers Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
