Thanks Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: witsie/ken mckelvy Subject: Re: New Books Dave: Thanks for the info on Chatham. Hadn't heard of them prior to this and will be checking there site as soon as I finish this. >> You sound like a RICH floaty boaty merchant Ken..this stuff is seriously expensive kit, although some of the R/C models that the Boltons have built from their own hulls is quite magnificent...Bill, I believe you supplied some pics to NAVIS or did I see them on your site?? << Not a floaty boaty -- I don't float'em. Does that make me a no-floaty-boaty? ;-) Assuming you're speaking in terms of large-scale hulls and fittings, I'd have to agree with you as to expense; especially when you throw in shipping to the U.S. Rich? It is to laugh. When I order a hull from the U.K., I go to the other end of the spectrum: Dean's Marine. They'll sell hulls alone and their work isn't bad; I'm currently working on a Tribal using a Dean's hull and, although there's corrections to be made, some cleaning up to do, etc., the hull is pretty good value. I'm thinking of doing either their Kent or Emden as my next project, but that's a ways down the road. The Rs were handsome ships, can't argue with you there. The Fuso appeals to me more as a modelling project, though. All that bridge work that looks like a hill-side shanty town just tickles me to death. That's all theoretical, however, for I'd never find a place to put a battleship model. Now, unfortunately, I don't have one in stock. I can special order one directly from Japan, but I hate to do that as it is very expensive to ship here even by surface mail; it's one of the very few items I usually don't import directly from Japan for that reason. I think one of my U.S. distributors will have it back in stock in a couple of months. If you're in a hurry, maybe one of the other US retailers such as Naval Base has one. Thanks, Bill Gruner ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Greg Subject: Re: 1/200 Nichimo Yamato Hey Bill Yup - I am in Aus, however, I don't have a copy of the quote, which means I have either trashed it by accident, or never received it, I'm leaning more towards Trashed it by accident - Sorry! I am definately in no hurry for it - If you could re-work a price for me, I need the Kit + GMM P/E Kit to suit, and Airmail Postage to Aus. Thanks Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: SantMin Subject: Re: New thread, decals I have been playing around with making decals for another hobby of mine, (golden age aircraft) and I just thought I would pass on some info because there are times when special decals would be needed for ship models too. Black decals can easily be printed onto clear decal paper with either a laser printer or a copier. I tried using a color bubble jet printer but it smeared and beaded up. Next I tried coating the decal paper with "Dull-Cote" and that made it a lot better but still not what you'd want to apply to a model. The next step was to print the decals out in color on regular paper and then go to the local office store and have them color copied onto decal paper. This works really good and I have several model decaled this way but some shops don't want to run decal paper through their copiers and sometimes they do jam up. I have found the solution. I bought an ALPS MD-1000 color printer because it uses a dry process to fuse the color onto the paper. It's works fantastic!!!!!!!! I can now design all my decals on the computer and print them out. The deca;s are waterproof and smudgeproof, and in true color. There is another added bonus to this printer, it can print in GOLD, SILVER, and WHITE ! This printer sells for around $300 and I'm sure you won't find any printer, at any cost, that will print WHITE, white usually being interpreted as "let the paper show".
