Not a lot of ships true (the complete list is 10000 items but only about 500 of these are ships) but you might find something of interest. The url is http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/kingkit/ KingKit ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Gene Larson Subject: List of available kits I have had a request for a source for a kit of USS George W. Ingram (DE 62). I do not know of one, but it was a Buckley class (long hull). I know there is at least one Buckley kit out there. This question sparked the idea that it would be convenient if all the steel hull warship models were listed in one source document. There are some pretty complete catalogs around that contain the majority of sailing ship kits, but there are a lot of new manufacturers of the steel hull kits that only send out their own brochures and their products are occasionally listed under new releases in magazines. Nothing is in one place that I know of. My proposal is to place on the NRG web site under Naval Ships a list of ALL the steel hull kits out there, and then keep it updated with new releases. However, I need someone closer to the subject than I am to provide the info to me. Any volunteers? The listing would look something like: SHIP TYPE CLASS YEAR SCALE MAJOR MATERIAL Mfg USS Doe DD Doe 1942 1/350 Resin ABC Co. Since the NRG is not-for-profit it would be a suitable service to provide model builders. Often it is difficult to know which manufacturer has what. The list could start with US ships, and as time permits expand to the other countries (HMS, IJN, etc.) Comments? The initial list would take a little time to compile and then format for a web site, but the updates should be easy. (I will do the html formatting). Again - a volunteer? There was some talk in the SubCommittee report a while ago of such a project. I wrote to Loren about a year ago, and I think he was considering these sets. Both of those kits would benefit from a photoetch set, although the Lionfish still needs major plastic surgery on the conning tower to approach accuracy. My last conversion of this kit consumed 90 hours... Tom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Terry Sumner" Subject: Where did everybody go? Hey Greg, I'm still here, readin' everyday. Always looking for info on the Big E...whatever I can get. "If you're not making any mistakes, you're probably not building anything." HMS Plynouth.. << HELP!!! It was me.....I wanted to know where the pressure hull etc...did not obstruct the free flooding holes in the sides of the sub (IE: which ones should have a clear view through the sub and which shouldn't? >> The alternative is to find (!) an old Revell Forrestal -- I want the original configuration, not the updated kit. Price is in the same ballpark, I think. << Les... I have an old Revell Kit....has the hull and deck built (not by ,me) and the bridge built...by me, and I believe all the pieces.... In the original box still...no instructions.....Where abouts are you located? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Greg Subject: Re: Where did everybody go? Hi Terry, I'm glad you're hangin around! How's Your E Comin along? Mine's on hold again - I go so far and get in a rut, start messin things up, then I put her on hold and go for something smaller, I think because it's such a big kit, with so many things to improve and scratch build, the possibilities are endless, and so is the amount of time you can spend building her. Did you say you have Detail and Scales book on her? Its very handy for scratch building - I also have some neat color pics of the Hangar bay if you need some referance there, they were taken when she had just come out of her last overhaul, so Airwing 3 had not arrived yet, and the bay was empty, so I have a lot of un-obstrusted shots of bulkheads and details, fireproof doors, the roof, and waiting room etc. Drop me a note if you want me to send um over!
