I helped save Her! Now I am looking for a USS North Carolina kit? Now if I can just find a REAL good kit of the USS North Carolina! at a real good price! Ronnie :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Greg Subject: Re North Carolina Hi Ronnie, I think Revell do one in there famous 1/426 line? Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: BSteinIPMS Subject: American Civil War ship models For those interested in warships of the American Civil (and Revolutionary) war, I see several resin kits by Cottage Industry Models are available from a mail-order hobby shop. Listed (verbatim) are: CIMH-------1/32 Confederate "H.L. Hunley" submarine, $48.95. (US) CIMHINT---1/32 Confederate "H.L. Hunley" submarine with full interior. Upper hull lifts off to display interior, $59.95. CIMD--------Confederate Civil War steam powered ram "David", $89.60. CIMT---------1/6th scale American Revolutionary War submarine "Turtle", the world's first combat submarine. We were allocated 2 of only 50 kits total produced worldwide. This kit was actually scaled to let you put a "G.I. Joe" figure inside. (figure not included) (End of verbatim listing) These kits are listed in the new flyer I received from Meteor Productions, who may be contacted at: http://www.meteorprod.com I haven't seen any of these, so can't speak to the quality of the kits. I CAN speak for the quality of Meteor Productions, run by long-time IPMS/USA member David Klaus out of Merrifield, Virginia. You can send for a free catalog, but it's mostly aircraft and such, with just a few ship listings. Enjoy. I agree with them, nothing seems to work right when trying to airbrush acrylics. Just how does one do it successfully? I use a single action badger. << I also use a Badger single action (350 as well as a dual action). The biggest thing that I've found when using acrylics is you have to mix just a bit thinner than enamals. You basically want the consistancy of skim milk in order to spray correctly. There are times when it takes a couple more passes to cover things with thinner paint, but overall the results are great. I've taken to using Pollyscale & Warbird acrylic paints almost exclusively and have rarely had any problem airbrushing them. The one thing I have noticed is that you really can't set down your airbrush for any length of time or the paint will harden in the tip. Beyond that, it all works pretty great. Hope this helps and Happy Holidays to you! I have just acquired an Airfix 1/600 Scharnhorst, in order to model my diorama of the Battle of the North Cape. However it features the ship before her bow conversion. Does any one have any ideas on how to model the new bow, and advice on any other changes that might be necessary. Many thanks for any help, and to Greg for this excellent forum. Best Wishes to all for the Holidays Graham Holmes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "David & Alicja Lombard" Subject: Glencoe Subchaser I just got the Glencoe Subchaser kit. It's different and should be quick. It would also make an interesting subject to enlarge for RC. Saying the instructions are sparse would be kind. I also have a more than a little filling and sanding to do. Questions: 1) Did the vessel have a clinker hull? The kit just has molded ridges. 2) What are the correct colors. The instructions list colors like "gray", "red", "black", &etc -- pretty useless! Most info I can find is for W.W.II and later. 3) Any good references? I have nothing suitable, nor can I find anything in several used bookshops. Does anyone have suggestions as to photoetched detail sets? Looks like GMM might have something, at least for railings, but don't know if the "Modern USN/JMSDF Warship" set includes the necessary radars and other assorted goodies suitable for a modern CV. << Les, Depends on when you are interested in presenting her. The GMM set is designed to go on an ENTERPRISE, which is close eough to any of the KITTY HAWKs to make the nets and general details work. If you want to show AMERICA as she looked after the removal of her Terrier launchers (what the box has), the GMM set has all the radars and other neat stuff you'd need. For an early look, good luck. But the GMM set combined with a Skywave weapons set will work, with a little help. BTW, I have the GMM sets at 10% off, email me for details. I have the Aoshima Minsk, but I'd really like some Kirov, Kresta, Kynda or Krivak class ships to put with it. I would want 1/700 scale or larger. Does anybody know of any or if any are going to be released. They are beautiful ships and it would be a shame if there aren't any kits. Any info appreciated. aubreyk@virtual-cafe.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
