Subject: SMML30/12/97VOL044 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INDEX 1: Soviet ships available 2: Re: List of available kits, again 3: Commander kit 4: Waveline 1/700 HMS Abdiel ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Kutsyy Subject: Re: Soviet ships available If you are interested in Soviet history, Aurora and Potemkin are available from number of stores in US. Both kits have Russian instructions (You can guess most of the staff, or i can translate for you :). Also I saw a few places on the WEB who sell number of Russian made kits of more resent ships. All sites were in Russian, and I don't remember addresses, but I can look again, if someone really interested. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: jpoutre@lehman.com (Joseph Poutre) Subject: Re: List of available kits, again >> You are right. That is a very useful list. Now, to beat an almost dead horse - I have two problems. There are still significant models missing such as Bluejacket and the large GRP hulls and kits from the US and UK. Secondly, if I am looking for ie. all available crusier models to choose which to look into more and which to buy, it isn't easy. There is no brief listing. Also, it is not obvious that Rajendra's List is the one to go to, and how significant it is. << Gene, Please write up reviews for as many kits as you know, and list all those you know of but haven't reviewed; we want the list to be complete. Also, send your suggestions on how to improve the list to Rajendra - his email address is in the list. Right now the list has three uses: giving a list of all available models so people know what's out there, giving a brief review of each model so the buyer knows what s/he's getting before purchasing the model, and allowing people to compare different models of the same or similar ships so the modeler can choose which one is best suited to his or her wants, needs and skill level. I suggested several kits currently being produced by various manufacturers. I was not aware that the kist are lacking so much in instructions and are very difficult for "beginners". The question: "Thanks for the tip on the Buckley Class DE by Commander. I got it for my father-in-law for Xmas. However, I don't think he was expecting it to be as difficult as it seems. Plus, there were not directions with it. Do you know if this is typical, not including directions?" Does anyone know what fit the kit represents (1941, 1942, 1943, etc.)? How does it compare with earlier releases by this manufacturer in terms of detail and quality of casting? (Most have been excellent, but some have fallen short of this standard--as I can attest from my own experience in building Waveline's USS New Orleans which required a lot of cleanup work). I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has any info on this matter. Thanks, Mike Eisenstadt ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
