Subject: SMML31/12/97VOL045 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INDEX 1: Warships Web Page 2: WTB: Lindberg DE or DD 3: Commander DE kit 4: Commanders kits ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "Rob Mackie" Subject: Warships Web Page I have received several inquiries recently regarding the location of the Warships page. It can be found at "http://home.att.net/~scotts-acrosportii/home.htm" The page focuses on the modeling of Allied Navies from 1900 - 1945. An exciting schedule of reviews and articles is in store for 1998. Stop by and take a look. The site is free and will stay that way. Also looking for the Lindberg WWII troop transports. If you have one and are willing to part with 'em, you can e-mail me at Leadsled58@aol.com. Thanks alot. Commander makes decent resin kits, however, in common with almost all resin kits, the instructions can be ....ummmm, telegraphic, at best. One needs to do some research. Also, the assembly of resin kits is rather different than standard styrene, starting with the glue (CA glue). Maybe the best plan would be to "subcontract" assembly to someone with resin kit experience and the reference materials on DEs. I do have a number of resin kits, and it's a little difficult getting used to working resin (more like wood) and handling phototetch. Need some scratchbuilding skills, too. If you work in submarines, as I do, you have to get into resin at some point..... I suggested several kits currently being produced by various manufacturers. I was not aware that the kist are lacking so much in instructions and are very difficult for "beginners". The question: "Thanks for the tip on the Buckley Class DE by Commander. I got it for my father-in-law for Xmas. However, I don't think he was expecting it to be as difficult as it seems. Plus, there were not directions with it. Do you know if this is typical, not including directions?" << Commanders kits in general are not known for their lavish instructtions. One can expect 2 or 3 views and at best drawings of the parts with ref. numbers. There are almost always a few parts that don't show in any drawing. I wouldn't exactly recomend them for the complete novice, however one can usually figure them out. Third party references are always a help.
