My question is about the 25 man whale boats - were the interiors of the whale boats painted WDB - to match the deck color when viewed from above, or where the entire boats (exterior above waterline and the interior of the boat) painted N-5. << According to SHIPS-2, the boats are supposed to to be the same as the rest of the ship. 20-B for the floorboards, and 5-N for the sides. The specific quote is this: "Boat topside exteriors, as manufactured, will be painted with one coat of haze grey (5-H). A second coat of exterior paint shall be applied by the building yard at the time the ship to which the boad is assigned receives it's final painting. Caulked decks shall not be painted, unless so ordered to conform to the to the camoflauge scheme of the major vessel. Floor boards and walking surfaces, exposed to the weather, shall be deck blue (20-B)." You can access this from the SubCommittee homepage at: http://www.wolfsong.com/SubCommittee/. Lots of talented sub modellers post answers to questions (Ken Hart, Dave Merriman among them). Just scroll down until you see the newsgroups listing and go to the static model group. I am a member of the SC and a static sub modeller, and will be happy to try to answer questions either on the SC static model page or in this forum (SMML). Unfortunately, I'm not familar with Holland's original color scheme.... Dale was kind to send me the antenna arrangement and deck plans, which are very useful with detailing, I also received GMM p/e set which is very nice, lots of intricate details. I'm still short of Sumerall's highly recommendalbe book USS New Jersey; An Illustrated History, which I'll get my hands on in late February. So far I've done with sanding and filling the hull, opened anchor chain holes, prepared anchors, rudders, screws chaft suppotrts, screws and chafts. I also casted ~1 kg of plaster into the hull to make it more stable. Today when I was preparing the anchors I managed to snap a stem off when drilling a hole for chain to attach. I luckily found the stem and when I was about to glue it back on it slipped away from tweezers and I lost it again, or that was what I thought. After some 10 minutes when I had prepared a new stem from sprue I felt pain in my left eye. Yes, there it was, the missing anchor stem had flewn sraight into my eye. I got it out and was going to glue it on for the second time when I noticed that I had lost the glue applicator made of thin copper. Back to the mirror I went and this time the little runaway was nicely glued to my hair. No harm done, I still have some hair left. So, when modeling be careful, the accident is waiting to happen. :^) Matti ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "joseph w. reyna" Subject: Heller Prinz Eugen kits Gordon, Pacific Front Hobbies has two bagged Heller Prinz Eugen kits for $35.00 (US) each; they also have one boxed Heller Prinz Eugen and one Hipper kit for $45.00 each. Bill Gruner runs the shop; he is quite the gentleman and I've enjoyed numerous transactions with his business. He can be reached at 425-821-2562 and faxed at 425-821-9034. He's sending me a Heller T-23 and a S-Boot kit. Hope this helps. Cheers, Joe Reyna P.S. Pacific Front also sends out a bi-monthly newletter, including lists of collectible kits that happen his way - ask him to add you to his list. P.P.S If you happen to know where I might find a Heller La Seine Fleet Oiler kit, let me know!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Bill & Kaja Michaels" Subject: Photo-etch for Revell 1/570 Titanic? Has anyone looked at or used the Gold Metal Models 1/600 scale Merchant Ship photo-etch brass detail set? I am considering taking the Revell 1/570 scale Titanic kit on as a gift project. I have a relative who is a Titanic fan, and I was thinking about building the Revell kit, and putting in a small case. I'm not going to go crazy on this $12 kit, super-detailing it, but I do want to improve it. I think a careful building job, with some additional detailing, will fit the bill for this project. So, I'm wondering: How much of this brass set is applicable to the Revell Titanic kit? Thanks all!
