I'm looking to build this one myself (it's my homestate) as soon as the GMM set hits the market. Have to get Mr. Santo's article and set aside a lot of time apparently. Dan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Dan Goodpasture Subject: Arizona photoetch part, et al How's everybody's Revell Arizonas coming along? If someone built a pre-1941 version and has a extra lattice yardarm, would you be willing to part with it? I dropped one on the floor and then of course stepped on it while trying to find it. E-mail at good2014@tao.sou.edu. Loren Perry offered to replace any parts I messed up, but I already had him send me a replacement railing, so I don't want to take advantage of the man's good nature although I'm sure he'd be happy to replace it. Another Arizona question regarding Loren's method for decks: to what degree did you apply the stains? I streaked the deck fairly lightly, with fairly good sized spaces between brush strokes (5/0 brush), allowing a lot of the base color to show through. It doesn't look bad from a distance but the closer you get the less realistic it looks (I realize this is a common and not necessarily undesirable effect, but in this case there is a problem...I'm talking it doesn't look good at less that four feet!). Should I apply more stain or what? Thanks, Dan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: louellet@uism.bu.edu Subject: Glencoe's USS Oregon Bradford wrote: >> I have the kit too. It's my understanding that there are major errors in the way the deck structures are presented in the area around the crew sleeping quarters amidships. Major surgery is required. << I bought the Glencoe reissue a year or two ago and test fit the hull halves. The gap along the keel was at least 1/2 inch! It will take a lot of 'persuasion' to get the two halves together and a strong glue (tenax or weld-on?) to keep the halves together. Just recently I picked up an older Glencoe issue of the kit (I want to do Massachusetts and Oregon) and the hull halves practically held themselves together! I may be contacting Glencoe to replace the warped hull of the 'newer' kit. >> A PE set is also badly needed for this kit; perhaps GMM is listening :-) << I've seen a few web sites that have GMM listing the OREGON/OLYMPIA photoetch set as "coming soon!" If it is anything like his other sets, it will be well worth the investment. Looks like you wont have to wait very long to get your wish. Loren also told me that the 1/600 Merchant set has been reengineered to include TITANIC specific parts for the Revell kit. The rest of the new releases are anticipated before the end of February. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Gary Au" Subject: For sell or trade To Ship Model Fellows, For sell or trade for kits.
