Thanks for adding me to the mailing list and for taking the time to reply to my questions. I appreciate it. In any case, it's been tough getting the paints for this model, especially the "white Star Buff" or the orange/peach shade for the funnels. I would like to know if you blended flats together to reach the shade you wanted. I tried the Mfg. suggestion and blended the paints together, but it didn't quite come out the way I wanted it to. Also, the "gold strip along the length of the ship looks to be a challenge. Any thoughts on that shade of paint and technique for painting? I was considering taping off both sides and spray painting down the middle. Any other helpful hints would also be appreciated. I found that "drilling out" the portholes worked good for painting the topside of the bulkheads. Thanks again Greg and good luck with your model!! We have negotiated a brilliant (read dirt cheap) price on the last few remaining castings for our 1/350 HMS Nottingham (Standard Type 42) and 1/350 HMS Gloucester (Stretched Type 42)…. The casting quality is NOT up to MDC's standard, but we've definitely seen an awful lot worse(!!) If returned to us for any reason, you will have to pay carriage I'm afraid… unfortunately, no parts replacements service on these 2 kits is available if parts are faulty or lost etc. The very extensive etched brass details and instructions are as per the other kits… 1/350 HMS Nottingham, Type 42 destroyer £88.95 inc VAT and Shipping!! (deduct VAT (divide by 1.175) for export 1/350 HMS Gloucester, Type 42 destroyer stretched £98.95 inc VAT and Shipping!! (divide by 1.175 for export) CLICK HERE! http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/avenue/xdt22/kits350.htm Check out built-up models by Peter Hall and Ian Ruscoe, including Ian Ruscoe's Gulf War Special!! If a lower hull is required, please add £24.00 (we din't get a "special" on these unfortunately!) (deduct VAT at 1.175 for export) You will need the following products: 1 x WEM D3501 1/350 Royal Navy Decals at £3.79 and 1 x WEM D3502 1/350 Aircraft Decals for £2.77. Once this stock is cleared, we will be back to new full price castings, this time from MDC and the price will increase by almost 85%!! Our normal standard of customer service will then apply. It goes without saying that there is no trade available on these... If you don't mind using a little filler here and there, you will thoroughly enjoy these bargain basement kits... if filler is not your forte, and you like a kit that falls together, you'll have to wait for the MDC productions! I do however, have a suggestion of my own that may prove workable. A number of years ago I was visiting my son at his workplace in New York City, where he was in charge of a small group of men who's job it was to keep a private collection of antique cars in top shape. At that time, the owner was having the building's exterior adorned with what appeared to be huge 3-D relief carvings of vintage automobiles out of what looked like stone, or concrete. Later when I was given a tour of the collection, I was introduced to an artist who was working alone in an isolated area of the building, carving the giant 3-D auto images out of large thick sheets of styrofoam. He used saws, knives, air drills, grinders, sanders etc. to get the desired look he wanted. After shaping and finishing, he then proceeded to to spray the entire piece with a product called Dash Patch. When dry it became as hard as concrete. That was the look he wanted. In your case, if you were to use something similar to that product, you could then paint it to resemble the rust look, after which you can glue the piecess to the ships surface where desired. You may also be able to use a sprayable expanding foam as well. I hope this information helps or triggers some other thought process for you. Good Luck!!!!!
