Lowest price ($83.96) from Lone Gunman Hobbies http://navismagazine.com/bwn-sale/bwn-sale.htm (no, I'm *NOT* LGH, they just advertise on my webzine) Other than that there's the ubiquitous 1/700 kit from Skywave, reissued by DML and Revell. A very nice kit, especially if you complete it with the excellent modern USN set from Gold Medal Models which features a complete photoetched main mast for the Perry class. But I guess wouldn't hardly fit your idea of "big" :-)))) Paolo Pizzi Cypress, CA IPMS #35423 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Shane & Lorna Jenkins Subject: Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigates >> Anyways, My question is, does anybody do a Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate? The kit also includes a USN hovercraft as well. In 1/350 I think there is one in resin put out by someone in the states but I am not sure. Anti-fouling red, bronze, or bare steel? Thanks, Art Nicholson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Greg Lee (Listmaster - SMML) Subject: Re: Propeller Shafts Hi Art, I think prop shaft color is generally oxide red through out the US Navy, BUT, Having said that, I do have some real nice pics of The JFK in drydock, and her shafts are a semi gloss off white with like a tinge of Dark grey through it. You could probably rule out bare steel, it would have to be treated for corrosion purposes, and the shafts arent brass so forget that, I would suggest 9 times out of ten you would be pretty safe with Oxide Red. Hope that helps Greg (Listmaster - SMML) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: BSteinIPMS@aol.com Subject: Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate? >> Anyways, My question is, does anybody do a Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate? You can check out their on-line catalog, as well as other manufacturers, at Paolo Pizzi's NAVIS Magazine at: http://navismagazine.com Bob Steinbrunn, NRG Minneapolis ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Dave Carter Subject: WEM 1/700 HMS Benbow Hi There! If First World War Battleships in 1/700 Scale is your forte, then we are about to release our 1/700 HMS Benbow, sister of Iron Duke... she is represented in an interesting interwar configuration, i.e. 1924. The subject when built is almost 11 inches long. The kit comes with a beautifully detailed photoetched brass set to provide every last etched detail you need for this model.... watertight doors and hatches, correct pattern of rails, funnel cap cages, range clocks (you can count every number!), numerous davits, Admiral's walk, and a lot more besides. NO need to go hunting around for any extra parts (that can make some resin kits very expensive to build to the standards we set for our own..) The detail level is very high, and the subject is spot-on accurate... as this was one of the early WEM masters, it does not carry the new in-scale deck planking that Chester does... at that time, we had not got the technology to do this.. and refused to be pressured into overstating planking when it would be barely visible on the real thing.. to view individual planks properly on Chester and Sheffield, you need a magnifier! A highly detailed set of instructions is provided, together with a colour profile... printed in full colour with paint references given.. 9 x A4 pages in all... so leaving squilt in the way of hassle and further research for the modeller. However, if you want to go even further than we have, a Plan and Profile is available for Benbow in 1/192 Scale.. please enquire. The price is £54.00 (around $86.00 U.S.), and we ship airmail post free. We take credit card payment and usually ship within 48 hours of receiving an order. Bill Gruner at Pacific Front, and Lisa Norman at Rocky Mountain Shipyard also stock the WEM range of kits and etched brass/accessories if you prefer to deal with them.
