Anti-fouling red, bronze, or bare steel? << In my experience at the LB Naval Shipyard, the shafts were coated with fiberglass or something that looked like it, giving them a clearish green tint. This was from 1980 to 1988. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Rob Mackie" Subject: Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate Gulfstream makes a nice 1/350 class Perry Frigate. It is essentially the same kit as the Blue Water Navy Perry but is cast as a one piece full hull, so no need to suffer through the mating of upper and lower hull halves. The instructions are also improved over the BWN version. They are very detailed and hold your hand through every step. Look for a full build-up review soon in the newly expanded Warship. I expect to have the site finished in the next few weeks. Scale is not really relevant, but the bigger the better. << Gulfstream Models offers the OHP FFG cast from the original John Ficklen master. These are available in one piece full hulls, and you can order them from Commander Series Models. Give Ted a call at 1-888-IRONSHIP (476-6744) for more info. Obviously it is not as well detailed as the 1/350 version, although it is "motorized". From the box top it appears that there were 4 or 5 other ships produced in this scale. Anyone familiar with the kit(s) and what can one expect when building it?? Is there any photoetch available for this scale?? Since I have it, I figured I might as well build it. Would like to do some detailing on it. Probably won't do any attempt of upgrading to a later variant where she had the ABL's installed and a bunch of the lower caliber weapons removed. It looks like this kit depicts a WWII configuration. Is that a correct guess?? Any other hints or tips?? TIA. v/r HBlecha ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Henry Subject: PT Boat detailing! I have always had a thing about the PT Boat and manage to get started on one then drift off and let it set. My plans are to do the PT-109 (1/72 scale) except I am adding the Bofors 40mm on the tail or is it fantail. Actually replacing the existing 20mm gun. I am using the Airfix kit for the Bofor gun. What I now need are some twin 50 cal guns to replace the ones in the kit (Revell). Any suggestions on a source that would work directly or could be adapted?? Also where could one locate a 60mm mortar and some small caliber weapons, like the Thompson submachine gun. Both of these of course need to be in 1/72 scale. Another modification is to add a 37mm gun on the forward deck. That is available from the Hasegawa jeep/gun kit. I know how can one go off and do these mods without documented proof. Easy!! Becasue I like that configuration. Any suggestions is appreciated. v/r HBlecha ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Henry Subject: German WWII Subs!! I have an Nichimo 1/200 kit of a U-Boat that calls out Wolfpack and is supposed to depict the German submarine U-107. It says that it is Identical Series No.9. The question I have is this one of 9 submarines or are there other ships involved in this series. I would be interested in getting additional subs if that is what the other kits are. Anyone who might have either an extra copy of this kit or any other please let me know and maybe we can negotiate a trade. My money for your kit. Also is there any photoetch available in this scale that could be used or something that might work. Any other detailing parts like weapons, etc. Also interested in any suggestions regarding painting of this kit. Somewhere I read where Aoshima may be reissuing this series of ships. Can anyone confirm this teeny rumor?? TIA v/r HBlecha ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
