I probably have put this request for help on here before, and if so I am sorry, but I am a pretty old guy, who served aboard an LSM, and my grandsons are curious about what kind of ship had a conn off to one side, etc. I have learned that Lindberg had a kit that is now no longer in production, and I thought someone may have one lying on their shelf. It was a wonderfully ugly vessel, but it was what we had. I have tried almost every source in the magazines, on the net, etc., with no luck. Can anyone help me? I would be very grateful for any assistance. Paul Rathjen, Beaverton, Oregon. << Paul: You might try the following supplier of built-up models who advertises in FineScale Modeler magazine and whose line encompasses aircraft, armor, vehicle, and quite a few warship models. Also available are stands and custom - built cases for models: REPLICAS by TYSON P.O. Box 159 Covington, Ohio, 45318-0159 U.S.A. I have a collection of 8 small tall ship models I would like to have out to enjoy and avoid the dust. The plan is to find shelves for each one, attach it to the wall, and set the models and the covers on the shelves. They range in size from 15"w, 15"t, 4"d to 22"w, 18"t, 4 1/2"d. << Paul: The Nautical Research Guild's web site at: http://www.Naut-Res-Guild.org lists a fair number of hobby suppliers including those who build custom cases. You could also try the following supplier of built-up models who also builds custom display cases: REPLICAS by TYSON P.O. Box 159 Covington, Ohio, 45318-0159 U.S.A. I plan to paint her up in the Ms. 33 pattern (I think it is Ms.33, could be wrong), but realizing that Ms. 33 patterns had many variations , can someone tell me what colors I'll need? << Hi Dan You'll certainly need Haze Gray, Sea Gray, and Dull black as well as deck blue. I don't have the reference in front of me but I don't think you need any others. If you need a good reference work Try USN colours of WWII Vol 1 from The Floating Drydock. This explains all the Measures and the colours and has some superb photos. I've just finished putting Measure 32 pattern 2c on the Tamiya Fletcher and did it like this: Haze Gray first. Then I masked off the haze gray ( I use self adhesive parcel labels, cut into small rectangles or cut to suitable curves) next, the Sea Gray. Mask that and finally the Black. In areas that are difficult to mask with tape or sticky paper I use Copydex which a latex glue ( it just peels off when dry). Turn the pressure down on your airbrush when you're spraying against masking and this will help prevent the paint bleeding under. The mask all the verticle surface and spray the decks. When all this is done go over the whole thing and paint in the deck fittings and any touch-ups needed. Hope this is of some use and good luck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "the LePine's" Subject: INFORMATION PLEASE...German type 9c/40 & Normandie Greetings fellow modellers...this is Robert S LePine. The Titanic nut (doing the 1/48 scale wreck model). Well now for the request. Looking for the following information. For my work at the Shearwater Aviation Museum, I need drawings/plans for a type 9c/40 German U-Boat. This is for our new Victoria Cross memorial gallery. The model will show David Hornell's attack on the U-Boat that lead to him getting the VC...... The model will be 1/48 scale, waterline. Can anyone help??? On a personal note. I'm thinking of the next project AFTER Titanic. Looking for any and all information on the liner "Normandie". Finding out so far that Line plans of this ship May Not Exist. Do They????? Looking forward to hearing from you folks... Robert CTV Nostromo ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Bill & Kaja Michaels" Subject: Looking for Lindberg Kit I am looking for a copy of the Lindberg (USA) model sold as the "Civil War Blockade Runner". It is actually a model of the US Revenue Cutter Harriet Lane. Harriet Lane served with distinction in the Revenue Cutter Service (fore-runner of the US Coast Guard) and with the US Navy. She is credited with firing the first shot at sea during the Civil War, when she stopped the steamer Nashville from entering Charleston Harbor during the seige of Ft Sumter. The name Harriet Lane was given to one of the USCG's Famous class cutters, launched in the 1980s. I am a plankowner from USCGC Harriet Lane (WMEC-903). The Lindberg kit was around for a long time, and I never quite got around to picking one up. Now, I suddenly realize that they've been oop for a couple of years, and they have disappeared from local hobby store shelves. I know that there is a Model Shipways wooden kit available of the HL, but I'd prefer to have the plastic kit for what I have in mind. Can anyone give me a lead? I've tried the local Boston area stores, as well as Hobbyweb, Pacific Front, and North Coast Modelworks on the web. (I'm sending to both the Seaways and plastic ship lists.) thanks, Bill Michaels ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Bill & Kaja Michaels" Subject: LST Models I looked on http://www.hobbyweb.com, and found both a 1/700 and a 1/350 scale kit listed. (The 1/350 scale is listed as a future release.) I distinctly remember seeing a 1/245 scale LST kit on the shelves of Spare Time Hobbies, in Marlboro, MAss. I don't remember the maker, but I am sure it was not Lindberg. (Maybe Encore?) I recall that it was not from one of the big model companies, was in a blue-ish box, and didn't seem particularly expensive. (So I assumed it wasn't resin.) I don't get over that way very often, so it will be a while before I can confirm the kit's maker and price. If the person who was looking for the LST is truly desparate, he may want to call the shop. Area code is 508. Bill Michaels ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
