Subject: SMML18/03/98VOL122 shipmodels@wr.com.au --------------------------------- NOTE - The new SMML template has taken a little longer to design than expected. Hopefully the new look SMML will be in place tommorow night. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage our Retailers and Suppliers to make use of this new arrangement, and start posting in!!!! As I didn't have any plans to build a kit of the NJ, I didn't take much notice... I acquired a Tamiya kit for US$60 on Saturday (in an English model shop...!) so now I need to do some research. I know that WEM stocks the GMM set, so that's another major expense in the not-too-distant future! Any chance of emailing me anything on the NJ that's been gathered in so far? TIA Chris Hughes (CJM.Hughes@BTInternet.com) ***NOTE FROM LISTMASTER**** I'll dig it out and post it tonight - Greg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "DOUGLAS MARTIN" Subject: Re: USS Forrestal Instructions - posting! Folks: Am sending a set of 1/550 instructions out to Joseph this Friday, they are for kit H-339. Regards, Douglas (Scotland) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Joseph W. Divar" <110055.3477@compuserve.com> Subject: Re: SMML17/3/98Vol121 >> Though the ships are to be docked at the pier, the pier itself will not be open to the public! Argh! Long distance views will only be possible. However, there is a slim chance Forrestall will be bought be a preservation society, so maybe that will change. << John, I would trade you in a minute to live in NE rather than down here in Corpus Christi, TX. Having the LEXINGTON museum here and even the Texas State Aquarium just doesn't off set having to live in a city sized garbage dumpster. BTW, those don't mess with Texas bumper stickers advocating litter control? It's a joke. Just look at the trash strewn streets here. On a side note, I also can't seem to shake the LEXINGTON. Assigned to her as a midshipmen. She was then around when I was a student naval aviator. Many afternoons were spent running over to their AIMD department for parts. Even attended her decom complete with SNJ flybys and the Blue Angels. Thought I'd seen the last of her then. She surprised me when I moved to Corpus Christi to become a flight instructor. The buds in the local IPMS chapter volunteer regularly and just don't understand why I wouldn't be interested in coming aboard for a visit . When you spend over 18 months of a two year tour aboard a tin can, you wouldn't want to either. Unless you had to. Anyway, I have a point of contact for the Lady Lex if anyone out there is looking to get in touch and do the model some time. Divar" <110055.3477@compuserve.com> Subject: FORRESTAL address >> which incarnation of the ship? I have both available to copy for you. << James, thanks for the offer. My address is: Joe Divar 7238 Valley Circle Corpus Christi, TX 78413 I'll try to see if I can't stop our Scotsman from having to pay post for a set I accepted from him over there. Regards, Joe & Mary Divar ***NOTE FROM LISTMASTER**** Just a note here for newer subscribers, it has been the general practice and preference of readers in the past to keep personal information and monetary exchange details off the list. Readers private e-mail addresses are always provided with posts so you can reply privately to make trade arrangements. It may not always be in your best interests to advertise your personal details in a public forum - Greg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Pacific Front Hobbies Subject: Skywave M-14 Curtis Wilbur & WL Baltimore The new Skywave M-13 Burke will be followed shortly by the M-14 Curtis Wilbur (we should have them in this week), which features a slightly revised suprestructure & mast, but it is NOT a Flight II. A Flight II version has not been announced by Skywave in the 6-month futures memo. In addition to the impending re-release of the Baltimore-class Helena by Revell-Monogram, it might be of interest to some of you that Waveline of Japan produces 2 excellent Baltimore class kits in 1/700 waterline resin - WL-58 Baltimore, and WL-59 Pittsburg. I love the list for things like this . Regards, Joe & Mary Divar ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: John Knoepfle Subject: Re: Color Chart Jon, First, on behalf of Jeff and myself, we both want to thank everyone for getting the chart, and the positive comments concerning it. It's good to get this feedback on such a project, since it was a challenge to match up all of this stuff, not to mention finding a 1929 Munsell book. We both hope that this will assist everyone in their projects in the future, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact either of us. << I just subscribed to this mail list. Can you tell me about and send me this color chart. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: John Knoepfle Subject: Re: Yamato colors Greg, >> Last year I built ARII's 1/250 Yamato, which is also quiet nice, and for that I used Tamiyas Hull Red with a pinch of Brown in it for below the waterline. And Dark Sea Grey for the superstructure, guns, hull etc.... For the decks, I used Humbrol ochre, but if I was doing it again now, I would use Loren Perry's Floquil Mud, Walnut and Driftwood staining process. << I've never heard of Loren's Mud, Walnut, and Driftwood staining process. What is it and where can I find out more about it? Thanks. ***NOTE FROM LISTMASTER**** Lorens article on Wooden Decks is on the NAVISMAGAZINE.com site. http://www.navismagazine.com/features/perrypeclass/addenda.htm To apply this method to the 1/200 Yamato, is gonna be a HUGE job, but I am sure it will be worth your effort, and if you do try it, I would love to see a pic of the results on a model of this scale - keep us all posted! Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: montreal@usit.net (Jon Warneke) Subject: Re: USS Texas BB-35 >> I am looking for a model of the USS Texas BB-35. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! << There's a company called Viking Models somewhere in Texas who is about to release a resin kit of the Texas. They have a web site, but I'm not sure of the URL. Jon Warneke Iron Shipwrights ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Rob Mackie" Subject: Royal Navy Colour Chips We have published a set of Royal Navy WW2 colour chips on the Warship web site at http://warship.simplenet.com/toppage3.htm Jon Warneke has matched the 1929 Munsell colour codes to readily available paint chips available at Sears and other home improvement outlets. These should prove helpful in fending off any midnight raids by the colour cops. It sells for $185 from Pacific Front Hobbies (425) 821-2564. I have not seen a review yet. Buy it, build it and let us all know! Roger Clemens ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: RCClem Subject: Web page for Haze Gray and Underway Someone mentioned a web page for Haze Gray and Underway: http://www.membrane.com/~elmer/navy I tried it and it did not work. Do I have it complete or correct? I remember touring the page quite a while ago and then lost it. Was it rolled into the USS Salem page or renamed? It was a great site.
