Now I can finish off the model. Again thank you for the service. Charlie Stewart ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Mitchell Subject: Re: new format >> Let me preface this comment with my lack of knowledge of how to write HTML. Given that, is it possible to simply set each respondent's e-mail address as a link? This would make it a lot easier to respond directly. << Yes it is. Simply preface the individual's email address with mailto: This would be simpler if each user would add such a line to their signature. Let's see if it works on mine. Paul R. Hey Guys, I love the idea of adding "mailto" to postings, BTW,I think it will only work for those who are reading the list in a browser, like an all in one package like Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer 4 where you can activate an e-mail address like a link, but for those of us who are using a mail client like Eudora, I am not so sure if it will be of use? Anybody know for sure? My other question is If I paint an area in flat, then gloss coat it, apply decals, and then dull coat it, will I get a desired result? Or Would I be best to find a gloss equivalent to the Tamiya Light Grey (XF-66) I have been using? (If so, anybody know a good match?) Greg (Listmaster - SMML) mailto:shipmodels@wr.com.au ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: John Philip Downing Subject: Re: New format The new format is very good. The only improvement I can think of is to get rid of the extra line of dashes. One is enough. And please don't clutter it with HTML codes. Thanks for the good work John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: BEN8800 Subject: Poly-S paints >> I don't see Poly-S paints in their March catalog, but they carry Floquil paint which is the same company. << Keep it straight. Poly-S is a Floquil acrylic paint. Regular Floquil railroad, marine, military paints are solvent based. Will do some research on the 'rig's of these ships and get back with you. Dealing with those serving in the Asiatic Fleet in '41 should simplify your research; any photos from the thirties should be applicable -- I doubt they were much changed, if at all. Included in the Asiatic Fleet were the following Four Pipe DDs (I've tried to indicate their fates, I'm not at all certain of scrapping dates, AG = Miscellaneous Auxiliary, AVP = Seaplane Tender - later AVD): Task Force 5 DESRON 29 Paul Jones (DD.230) flag -- AG.120 scrap '45 DESDIV 50 Peary (DD.226) Lost, Jap air, Darwin 2-19-42 Pope (DD.225) Lost, Jap CAs + air, Java Sea 3-1-42 John D. Preston (AVP.20, ex-DD.344) I'm not sure where the two AVPs were built and do not know their fate. All of the DDs in DESRON 29 were built by Cramp Shipbuilding of Philadelphia. Being all from the same yard they should be very much the same and, as Cramp was not a Bethlehem Steel yard, they should all have had the rounded stern (in commom with the Ward kit). The John D. Ford and the Pope were both awarded Presidential Unit Citations. John D. Ford for Java Sea operations 23 Jan. through 2 Mar., '42. Pope for Southwest Pacific 23 Jan. through 1 Mar., '42. Edsall's fate remained unknown until 1952 when captured Japanese film resolved the mystery. Note that there may be some confusion about the organization of DESRON 29. "U.S. Destroyer Operations" lists DESDIVs 50, 57, and 58 on 12-7-41. For January of '42, however, it lists DESDIVs 57, 58, and 59 (members of DESDIV 50 becoming DESDIV 59, all others remain the same). Whether there was an actual change when joining ABDA, I don't know. Hope there's something useful here. Ken McKelvy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Duane Fowler Subject: 1/200 IJN Doors and Hatches Hello all! I am currently working on the Nichimo 1/200 scale Yamato. Unfortunately, for a model that size (over 1 meter long!) the detail is really lacking. I have obtained the GMM PE brass kit for this model (spectacular!) but it only has one style of door. I have heard rumors of a PE brass kit from Fuji Art of 1/200 IJN doors and hatches. Does anyone know where I can get this kit or any other 1/200 Doors and Hatches detail kits? So far I have been scratch building then from .005 styrene and brass wire (no fun!).
