The two kits I found in mail orders are Academy at $ 52.49 and Gunze San. At $ 143.81 as there is quite a gap can a good soul give Me a piece of advice . The model is to be donated to the Venezuelan Museum of Transportation. SALUDOS Alberto ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: James Corley Subject: Re: 1/400 Scale aircraft.. what do we ship modellers want?? >> POLL aircraft in 1/400 Scale. S2 Tracker, E1-Tracer aircraft, A3D Skywarrior, A1 Skyraider aircraft, << I would definitely go for some of these, but keep in mind the ship kits available to put them on: The Heller CVs: Arromanches (Colossus class CVL of many navies) Foch/Clemanceau The Enterprise CVAN-65 from monogram or Nitto (?) is also 1/400 For the Heller kits, just about any WW2 carrier plane can be put aboard one as almost every operator used a mix of various USN/FAA types. For the post-war ships: A4Ds, F8U/F-8E(FN), S2F, Harriers, Etendards, etc, etc, etc. I would most certainly buy these aircraft, AND the Heller FOCH, if a decent airwing were available. How about planes for the Revell/Lindburg 1/540 carrier fleet? The YORKTOWN from Lindburg can be crossed with a Revell ESSEX 27C to get a decent 27A, or left alone to get a fair LPH. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "DOUGLAS MARTIN" Subject: HMS Hood 1/600 Instructions Ken: I have a set, with the original 'text' notes for each step, having built about 3 from 1969 onwards. If nobody locally can give you a copy, I should be able to do so, let me know. Regards, Douglas (Scotland) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "M.J. Warman" Subject: Paolo Pizzi cheap shot Dear Paolo, Your condescending and cheap shot at Mr. Herne is totally uncalled for. All Mr. Herne was pointing out is that a certain modeling skill didn't work for him and you find for some unknown reason to attack his modeling skills. This is one of the reason people have left Navis. "I'm Paolo and I'm always right so everyone else just get in line with my thinking or you don't know anything about modeling." Since Warship is now a competitor to you and Mr. Herne is a major part of Warship it is pretty obvious where you are coming from. Jealousy maybe? Mr. Pizzi if you can't find anything consrtuctive to say please stay out of here!!!! Mike ***NOTE*** If anybody wishes to follow up this post - do it privately, as it will not be published in SMML - Greg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "T. J. KOENIGSFELD" Subject: Academy Titanic and realistic water Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows what color I should paint the stacks on the Titanic model. Is it a yellow color, or a gold color, or a brownish color. The color they say to use almost looks brown. Also, I was wondering if the person who said to use toothpaste for a realistic water effect uses anything to dry the toothpaste. I have been letting it sit there for about one week and it is still really soft. Thanks to all the fellow modelers for all your help. T. J. From: Self To: xdt22@dial.pipex.com Subject: 1/400 aircraft YESSSS!!!! Send reply to: eduardo@piem-konsult.se Date sent: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 23:48:51 +1 Hi CJC Please, it would be wonderful to have aircraft in that scale for Hellers 1/400 Light Fleet Carriers (Colossus class) used by RN, RAN, France, India, Canada, Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina in several guises & periods. and Majestic class Fleet carriers (RN, RAN, etc?). Sure winners are the A-4 Skyhawk (-E/-B), S2 Tracker, H3 Sea King , Hawker Sea Hawk, Hawker Sea Fury, Vought F4U Corsair, WestlandHAS 22/Sikorsky H-19. All of the above have been used by several navies on their Colossus Class carriers. There are a few more aircraft that have been used singly by one of the above navies... If you want more exact info please do not hesitate to e-mail me; I could provide you with air group composition for the several navies durin their LONG service history. If you decide to produce the above planes I want to buy several sets (a bunch... not less than 10 anyhow) for my several conversions of Heller`s Arromanches (as ARA 25 de Mayo, ARA Independencia, INS Vikrant, HMNLS Karel Doorman, HMAS Melbourne, HMAS Sydney, HMS Ocean and/ or HMS Glory (of Korean War fame) Arromanches (of Indochina and Suez fame), HMCS Warrior and ABS Minas Gerais as soon as you have them :) BTW, Photoetch is nice (esp. for the helos!!) but I´d rather have your high quality resin aircraft without PE than nothing at all because it is too expensive to do the PE! Maybe you would like to consider some sort of conversion/upgrade kit for the Heller kits ;) - however please do the planes and I´ll be grateful for ever! Hoping to hear from you soon, Eduardo Mitchell (Göteborg, SWEDEN) "I learned it from a book!!" Haze gray for modern USN ships. From reviews, seems as if people use many different paints for this color. Can someone tell me what FS number it's closest to? 2: 1:700 Fletcher-class. Are there any models available that include the hedgehog and any other changes made when some ships were reclassified DDEs in the 50s? 3: Are there any 1:700 kits of Iowa-class BBs in their modern configuration with Tomahawks, etc.? 4. What color were the vertical surfaces on 1950s CVs? (Particularly interested in CVBs). Were the decks (not the flight deck) a different color? Sorry for all the questions. I'm about midway (no pun intended!) through the Revell Franklin D. Roosevelt, CVB-42. BTW, expect to get the GMM Midway/Forrestal/Essex PE set this week. Will post a short review after I look it over. Les ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Lee Francis Wilhelmsen Subject: Re: Subject: Flats, gloss, and decals Hi all I was wondering if it is at all necessary to spray the whole model with gloss or just the parts where the decals are supposed to be? Will this have any effect on the result after the flat finish? Lee Francis Wilhelmsen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Lee Francis Wilhelmsen Subject: Rigging in 1/350 scale I'm just about to start rigging my Revell SMS Emden and before I start I'd like to ask about rigging in general. From the instructions it looks like a massive job. Could anyone share some tips or hints on going about this task to make it easier? I've never done it before so I'd like to get it right. I haven't purchased any thread yet so tips would be greatly appreciated. Also, would it be wise to spray-paint the modell with flat laquer finish before or after the rigging? Best regards Lee Francis Wilhelmsen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Reidar.Berg@notes.dynoind.com Subject: Re: 1:400 Scale Aircrafts, White Ensign Models My wishes: If you consider making aircrafts in scale 1:400, please consider the following WWII fighters: - Blackburn Skua - Swordfish - Sea Hurricane - Barracuda These fighters would have been perfect for "Heller's" old HMS Illustrious kit. Please include photoetched brass detail parts. Included will be a chart of all the ships and the camouflage patterns they carried. Check out 'Warship' for more info. Jeff Herne Author, "Fletcher, Gearing & Sumner Class Destroyers in WWII" 'Warship' Contributing Editor << Hi Jeff Any chance we buy this book direct from the Author, of course duly autographed by you Saludos Alberto -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- ****Notice from Listmaster**** Hi All, Well, unfortunately, the time has come for me to get heavy! I have overlooked a lot, and turned many a blind eye to the occassional sarcastic remarks that have been creeping into postings lately, but the time has come to say no more! SMML is privately owned and organised by myself, It is donated by myself, free of charge, and in good faith to the shipmodelling community, as a tool to be used in the development of the hobby, and hopefully, a priceless aid in the learning and skill development of all readers. Therefore, I reserve the right to refuse to publish any postings/comments which I alone deem unfit and not relevant to the cause of SMML. I know some readers may feel that this in someway incriminates on their "Right" to free speech, well, I guess in a way it does, but SMML is a restricted, and private service, which I provide, therefore, I make the rules - or - I don't do it anymore! So from tommorow nights issue onwards - I will trim postings of sarcastic signatures and non-relevant remarks before posting them, and in their place will be a notice that the message has been snipped. Sorry - But I *WILL* keep SMML a flame free environment, solely for the purpose of discussions of building model ships, any private grudges should be done "PRIVATELY", thats why addresses are supplied with each post. Keep it OFF the list! Thank-you. Greg ============================================================================ End of Volume
