Good thing about this model is that once finished, if you don't like the result, you can always squash it smear it with cyano etc. paint it green and say it's the sunken version, right? SALUDOS Alberto ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: ModelerAl Subject: Re: Avaliable kits - second try >> I did not receive a reply to this request. Thought I would post it again> Thanks At one time I found, and thought I placed on the NRG sources list, the site that lists almost all the plastic and resin ship model kits available. Now I can not find it. I would appreciate the URL. << Are you thinking of Navis? http://navismagazine.com/f-right.html HTH, Al ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: ModelerAl Subject: Re: Badges for RMS members >> It had dissappointed me that no requests for copies have come from SMML subscribers. << Au contraries, Mon ami, *I* requested one. ;-) Al (feeling like chopped liver) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Gene Katz Subject: Tauro 400 scale Italian CBs Hi All This is my first SMML message, so please no flames. Ever build the Tauro 400 scale Italian CBs? Realism, difficulty, fit, finish, etc.? Does any firm make other 350 or 400 scale Italian capital ships? Anyone know where I can get a Heller 400 Richelieu or Jean Bart? Thanks. Gene ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "T. J. KOENIGSFELD" Subject: realistic water using toothpaste Mr. Paolo Pizzi, I was on the Navismagazine website and I saw your idea for making waves ect. with common toothpaste. I tried it and the toothpaste never dried. It keeps its shape and looks real and great, but it is very soft. Is there a way to make it so it doesn't stay so soft? Thanks, your help is appreciated. P.s. Does anybody know what color the funnels are on the Academy Titanic model? T. J. Human hair works quite well. >> I would not use my hair because its gray. Use fly tying polyester or silk. You can get this stuff in 0.005" diameter. I use it for ships and WW 1 airplane rigging. You can get it at any fly tying fish store or via mail order. In May Model Expo will have some in their new ship catalog (waxed polyester thread) in 50 yard spools (black and tan). We will also be putting some in new Model Shipways kits. When the pressures of work, or the reports of yet another senseless murder/sex scandal de jure, or just the feeling that you're the one everybody has decided to cut off on the freeway today, gets me down, stopping for 5 minutes to peruse the running commentary on my favorite pastime provides a relaxing, oftentimes stark, contrast to the other events of the day. I'm beginning to view SMML as a necessary therapy, a "kinder, gentler" obsession than the lust for power, money, and more lust that seems to permeate many of our fellow human's day to day activities. Even the occasional minor flame wars are downright civil compared to shock-talk radio, or sensationalist yellow journalism. We do sometimes get a bit exorcised about our hobby, but I think (I hope) we all realize it's all in fun, because that's why most of us build/research/collect models. I don't know if the pressures of day to day maintenance of SMML get you down but please know that, at least for me, this thread is a God-send, a respite from all the other garbage, and a chance to sit back and relax, even if only for a moment. Bravo Zulu sir, and keep 'em coming. Cheers. Joe Reyna ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Michael Eisenstadt Subject: USS Missouri to New Jersey (Round Bridge) Conversion Joe: I suspect your best bet to convert the Missouri kit to the New Jersey with her round bridge is to simply to round off the squared bridge on the Missouri with sand paper, and clean up the resulting mess with sheet plastic and photoetched window frames (it really shouldn't be so hard). Tamiya's Model Magazine International had an article a few years back explaining exactly how to do this, including full-size 1/350 templates showing how to round off the Missouri's square bridge. The article -- "USS New Jersey -- 1944" was by M.W. Williams, and it appeared in the Fall/Autumn 1986 issue of Model Magazine International, on pp. 326-329. I can send you a copy if you'll send me your mailing address. Hope this helps! Mike Eisenstadt ***NOTE FROM LISTMASTER*** Don't forget that Missouri has some gun tubs up there to that NJ never had, just aft the conning tower - Greg ============================================================================ TRADERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: CHRIS DRAGE Subject: Models for sale Hi Guys and Gals, I have a small number of Matchbox kits (all original) for sale: HMS Ariadne (two kits) £12.00 ea HMS Exeter £18.00 ...also Aoshima's Kasugamaru liner £14.00 Does anyone want a copy of: Man O' War: Town Class Cruisers £30.00 Ensign : Dido Class Cruisers £30.00 I do have copies of: Ensign: Q.E. We still had to pay for them though..... new supplies will arrive within a week we hope. The normal export price of this set is £5.08... however, to any of you out there who have ordered a set and would like to substitute it for one of these at £3.50, please let me know.. if anyone would like a set or 3 of this "reject" brass... parts for all early and late war Os and Ps included (will also fit R and S Class as well..), you are welcome to place an order.. whilst stocks last (relief etched anchors are included, and are fine, by the way, and most modellers will have a supply of anchor cable from the GMM or Toms sets.. likewise the vertical ladders are available in most modellers' spares boxes, or can be bought from WEM, Toms or GMM).
