Espana (Spanish BB) Marat (Soviet BB) Eagle (WWII U.K. CV) Hermes (WWII U.K. CV) Curacao (British CL) Lorraine (French BB) Bearne (French CV) Le Fantasque (French DD) Surcouf (French SS) Aquila (Italian CV) Gotland (Swedish CL) Van Ghent (Dutch DD) Marcilio Dias (Brazilian DD) I'd like to see the industry continue to branch out into underrepresented subjects. I can see no need for another Fletcher or Essex. Mark Sloan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Alberto Rada Subject: Itsy bitsy scale rivets There is a member of IPMS , Woody Vondracek that makes dry transfers under order, a really exquisite work, he has several ready made ones including one with really tiny rivets, you can find them at: http://www.mindspring.com/~transferman/ and he can be reached at transferman@mindspring.com SALUDOS Alberto ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Linsay Perry" Subject: Hms Ark Royal Anybody out there know where if a 1/350 scale HMS Ark Royal is available ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Jeff Herne" Subject: Tamiya HMS Hood & O class DD & WWI Aero We have all the color chips for WWII Royal Navy on Warship, once you decide which era you intend to model, you can see the color approximations on the site. Jeff Herne Warship - Coming April 15th - NAGATO LIVES!! http://warship.simplenet.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: SantMin Subject: Re: aircraft modelers >> So what is the connection? << Modelers are modelers. I have been building ship models for over 50 years but I also like to build 1920's/30's aircraft. Bob Santos ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "DOUGLAS MARTIN" Subject: Re: 1/700 Warships wish list. Folks: Where to start! Queen Elizabeth class, with 'conversions' sets for all 5 ships. Revenge class, as above. Renown/Repulse RN cruisers, all classes, inc conversions. RN DDs, A-I, J-N, Tribal, Q onwards. Italian warships, German, Russian, French etc etc. How about WWI battlecruisers etc? So many to choose from!! All injection kits of course, for people like me who took days to add 8 pz rockets and a propeller to a Hasegawa FW190 1/72 kit - and required to un glue his fingers as well. Regards, Douglas (Scotland) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: JGordon262 Subject: Dai-Riki vs. stretched sprue I used some Dai-Riki fishing line for the first time this weekend to apply some rigging to an IJN battleship in 1:700. This material is not the be-all, end-all rigging that I hoped it would be. While it is very nice in some respects, it does not replace stretched sprue for all applications. Here's my report: Dai-Riki (.003) +'s: stronger than sprue-hard to break, perfect consistency, ultimate thinness? -'s: hard to shrink under heat, loose lines look noodley, harder to see, costs $4.50 for 30 meters Stretched sprue +'s: free, fun to stretch, snaps taut under heat, multicolors, holds arcs -'s: breaks easily, inconsistent thickness, can be too sensitive to heat If I had a good method of shrinking the Dai-Riki then it's value would increase. I found that it is just too reluctant to snap taut, leaving wobbly rigging. Anybody have any remedies for this problem? JG ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "F J Hueso" Subject: 1/700 want list I'm glad that there are some modellers that apreciate our ships, out there! We have some interesting vessels, like España class battleships (remember, the smallest dreadnoughts ever constructed but, at least, we were on that league), but also the Canarias class cruisers (the first sunk and the last stricken among the Washington type cruisers), the first Dedalo (our Naval aviation was dated from 1918) or our present flagship, Principe de Asturias. I know we the spanish modellers are a minority, but after all, the Buchon was released for the aircraft modellers somo time ago! Regards Javier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Ritchie_deutag, Colin" Subject: Itsy bitsy scale rivets One other option hinted at in the replies was that of transfers. There is a company at the moment, Archers Fine Decals, I think that produce sheets of very thick decal rivets, the sheets also have standard panel fasteners for use on 48th and 32nd scale aircraft. I'm not sure how the rivets would actually look on ships, especially on 600th scale ships, however it is an area you might want to have a look at. Archers does have a web page, but its been a while since I was there, try looking at Scale model links page, I'm sure they'll be a link there, the address for that is, http://www.buffnet.net/~tonym/models.htm Actually since there's over 1000 model related links, its well worth investigating Colin Ritchie ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Ritchie_deutag, Colin" Subject: Hood Review Hood Review I've finally finished my review of Hood, since it runs to 6 A4 pages in word, posting it directly to the list really isn't on. However I'll happily send anyone who asks a copy of it, just drop me an e-mail, with your choice of format, (Straight Text, RFT, Word etc) and it'll go out to you. I'll try and get some photo's of the finished kit out at some stage, but at the moment I'm trying to get it and my 350th Prince of Wales ready for the Scottish IPMS Nationals in Stirling in a fortnight. I'm doing the "Beauty " work at the moment, weathering,(I'm using pastels and wash's), and adding the GMM figures etc, once I'm finished Photo's will follow. Actually the Ship class at Stirling this year might be interesting(!), my Hood, POW and a friends Titanic, what we lack in skill we make up for in sheer size! Colin Ritchie ============================================================================ TRADERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Dave Carter Subject: Tamiya HMS Hood Hi Shane, >> I'm about to start building either the Tamiya 1/700 HMS Hood or the Tamiya(ex Skywave) O class DD for APMA's mid year competition as soon I get the etched brass from WEM sometime in the next week. << Love an optimist!! Actually, the "O" Class IS available now, but the Hood brass is still awaited from the etchers (the instructions ARE done).. we can ship an order less than £9.00, which of course the £5.08 for the O Class is.. (everyone else, also note) but we do add £1.00 postage for this service. >> Does anyone have any hints about the above kits eg: construction ideas etc. << You are given P Class parts in the kit, but the shields on the 4 inchers are totally the wrong shape! We at WEM WILL be producing the shielded 4 inchers in the "Professional" series and they will be correct. The etch set gives late and early variants of both the O and P Classes, so pick a fit and research it... if you want any assistance, we have a number of good sources, including the long o/p "O to Z Class destroyers". >> Also any idea on colours (I unfortunatly haven't got the foggiest idea as yet, as to what year I'll be doing them in as yet.) Any help would be much appreciated. << Colours... again, pick your time... Chris Drage, who posts here regularly, is pretty clued up on who wore the prettiest schemes, and when they were carried on what. I expect him to post at almost the same time as I am writing this post, as he's just ordered a whole ruck of "O/P Class" frets for the latest flotilla build! The NVTC video "Colour Camera at Sea" is pretty inspirational... Chris has this, so maybe he can relay its usefulness or otherwise to you. >> Now for a thought provoking question :-). What is the connection between WWI aero modellers & ship modellers. << It's obvious Shane... it's all that darned rigging!!!!
