However you could console yourself by looking at Peter Hall's scratch-built Post War Ark on WE web page, its worth a look Actually its probably a good job there isn't one available, with my tendency to buy enormous lumps of resin from WE, I'd probably have ordered it by now if it were available. If I remember correctly, the only exceptions were dark green and dark blue which were reserved for commanders in chief's and admiral's barges respectively. Harold Lincoln ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Gene Katz Subject: Re: Wish List This may be wierd, but I would like to see the following kits: Alaska class CB (my uncle was a plankowner on the Guam, CB2) Empire State IV (I was a Merchant Marine deck cadet aboard this Training Ship, former USNS Henry Gibbins, 1943) Italian and French BBs Hood, Repulse, Rawalpindi, Compass Rose (200 scale) All of the above as injection molded, 350/400 scales. Why?Because they are more affordable and easier to work on than resin and 700 scale kits. So sue me. My wife squwaks enough now when I buy an injection molded kit ("like you really need another model"); I am also an airplane builder (48 and 72 scales), so I get both barrels! Did you ever get both barrels from a 5 foot tall Sicillian/Neapolitan? I tell her it keeps me out of the bars and strip clubs!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: DSisson384 Subject: Landing Ship Medium or LSM Hi all, looking for suggestions on kits that can or could be used for conversion to a Landing Ship Medium or LSM. Have done some initial reasearch but am kinda put of my league with this until I get a better understanding of the ship. Any and all suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated by myself and my older gentlemen client who would love to see it built and displayed on his mantle. Thanks, Ray You may send replies directly to me if you wish at DSisson384@aol.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Alberto Rada Subject: Re: WW I aircraft modelers Hi Shane OK you put me on the spot, well the answer is simple, and although I feel its my particular case I am sure it is shared by most modelers, for the past 6 years I have only been making WW I Aeroplane models, well, I love modeling, I am a pilot so I also love planes and I have an endless interest in this period's history as I feel that the events and specially the men (generic for men and women ) that developed in the first quarter of our century had the biggest repercussions in our lives and thought. Some months ago I decided to start modeling other subjects, to learn other techniques to apply on plane modeling, well I found the USS Ward and then the HMS Vega and now I have already more than 20 books on the subject (and building up fast) and got the Maine and the HMS Zulu/HMS Cossack, and believe it or not, saw a photo of the DDG USS Winston Churchill (which wont come out of the shipyard till 2000) found it beautiful and I am in the midst of making it. And know by now that I'll be making ship models for a long time to come. Off course as Dave says, I have to convince my rigging spider to take her Dramamine. One more thing, a very important piece of this puzzle has been the human quality of modelers I have found on this list, the help received by, now friends, like Scott Spencer, Paolo Pizzi, Jon Warneke, Ken McKelvy, Rob Mackie, etc. etc. SALUDOS Alberto ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Rod Anderton Subject: 40mm bofors 1/700 Fellow modelers, I'm new to the art of ship modeling. I usually dable in 1/48 WWII aircraft. I've developed an interest in 1/700 ship modeling. My current task is the 1/700 Enterprise CV-6. I'm using the Tamiya kit and have found in my research the need to do some "modifications" with the bridge and armament. My questions are the following: I'm looking for quad and dual 40mm Bofors (700 scale). Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm not sure if the Skywave detail sets contain any? Does anyone have ideas for adding any detail to them. I'm also in the same boat (pardon the pun) for the 5' guns. The detail of the 5' in the kit seems to be lacking. Thank you in advance for the help Rod Anderton ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: RCClem Subject: Re: 1/700 scale wish list I'd like to suggest the following: Since the 100 year anniversary of the Battle of Manila Bay is in a few weeks, it would have been nice to have kits of the U.S. and Spanish fleets available. For the U. S. Navy, that would have been: USS Olympia 1895 Protected Cruiser (available in 1/240 and 1/350 scale) USS Baltimore 1890 ProtectedCruiser USS Boston 1887 Protected Cruiser USS Raleigh 1894 Protected Cruiser USS Concord 1891 Gunboat USS Petrel 1889 Gunboat Any of the above would make an interesting model. For the Spanish fleet: Don Juan De Austria Gunboat, srved in US fleet D. Antonio de Uallo Marques del Duero Castilla Reina Christina Velasco (or Vasco) Gunboat, served in US fleet Isla de Luzon Gunboat, served in US fleet Isla de Cuba Gunboat, served in US fleet Isla de Mindenao Manila Transport, served in US fleet Gral Lezo Arayat Small Gunboat Panay Small Gunboat (I think it is available in 1/192 scale) And a handful of gunboats that served time in the US fleet. Sorry if I botched some or missed some of the names. Only a few of the larger ships which served long careers in the USN would be of interest.
