I am new to this list, and wondering if there are any 1/1200 scratchmodelers out there? Anyone interested in Predreadnoughts? Especially, anyone interested in French or British warships of 1890-1900? It is not so easy to find information on these, especially the bizarre and beautiful French fleet of the period! Yours, James D. Is it another bulletin board? Where do I sign up? These model bulletin boards are highly entertaining! Regards Dave ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Johnston" Subject: Hong Kong Model Shops Hi guys, having seen the great feedback on the location of good Italian ship model shops, I wondered if i could repeat the question with regard to Hong Kong ship model or just model shops. Are there any good shops and are the prices any advantage to elsewhere. many thanks R. Johnston. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: montreal@usit.net Subject: Re: Marine assault ships >> Ted Paris talked about doing a Kearsage (the Pre WW1) version a while back. Perhaps Jon Warneke (ARE You Listening?) knows if this is still on the burner. << We're still developing plans for the next set of kits we do. We haven't discussed the Kearsarge lately, but I'll certainly bring it up. As for the Kearsarge this message refers to, I believe he's looking for one of the new Wasp class LHD's rather than BB4. An LHD or LHA in 1/350 scale is a little too big for some of the plans we have right now. Jon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: KEITH REED Subject: Model magazine ship articles Shane Jenkins I would welcome receiving a copy of your index as is and as you wish to update from time to time. It would be very helpful since my collection of many of the same sources is totally unindexed. I appreciate the major task that you are undertaking. It can be either dreary work or take you off on tangents of uncompleted or unthought of projects. Either way it takes time. Thanks again. When I built one they for for advanced modelers only. You got a basically accurate kit, but a lot of detailing and scribing was left to do. One nice thing. A basically accurate hul and superstructre is all I would want on a vac form of a ship anyway. Like I said this was a long time ago. Maybe things have improved. (but I can't see it happening) would be more Liner kits. I'd really love it if there were good 1/350 plastic kits of say... the Queen Mary, Normandie, Ile de France, Aquatania, Bremen or Imperator. Some of the german four-stackers would be great too. Am I the only person out there who loves model ships but isn't intrested in Warships??? << Bring them on. I too would love to see these liners in 1/350th plastic. I do like the warship models, too, though. Mike Settle ============================================================================ TRADERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: montreal@usit.net Subject: Iron Shipwrights expands production Hi Everyone, Here's a quick update to let you know what been happening with Iron Shipwrights. Since the demand for out kits has been increasing for the past year or so, Ted Paris, owner of Iron Shipwrights, has expanded the production to include a new facility in East Tennessee. This decision was taken to get to the customer a faster and beter product, and to take advantage of the new kits to be released in the near future. Our kit of the HMS Sheffield is on schedule, and should be available in mid May. The special SMML price for this kit will be $220, and this is for a one piece (not two pieces bonded) full hull piece. The photoetch has been custom drawn to match to the cast parts, not the plans or the pattern. We feel you'll be impressed with this latest release. Also, with the expanded production, we will be able to complete the DKM Prinz Eugen and DKM Graf Spee for the US IPMS Nationals. For more info on these two kits, please contact Ted Paris at 888-476-6744 (888-IRONSHIP), and this number is available from Canada.
