Mandan (LSD 21) to modify this discontinued Kit No. 744M (rough guess 1/300) to represent Ft. Mandan as she looked in mid-60's (with helicopter pad over well deck). Kit is neither on Rajenda's list nor is mentioned anywhere else I've checked. Looks like better molding than on typical Lindberg ships. Any ideas how old or if kit has $ value unbuilt (friend owns two, each with different kit no. and box art). Floating Drydock sells 1:192 plans for Linderwald (LSD6), 6/66 and may still offer set for Ft. Marion (LSD21), 1945. Which set is best? Any other suggestions for modifications to mid-60's appearance or for general detailing? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Lee Francis Wilhelmsen Subject: RMS Titanic: How accurate are these sources? This topic has probably been discussed to death before, but I only now purchased the Academy Titanic in 1/350. I was wondering how accurate the box cover picture is? And also, how accurate is the Titanic used in the film? In both cases I'm only after information regarding the basics like colour, window positioning, gold line positioning between the black and white on the hull side. (Is this line gold? It looks more yellow to me...) Anyway, I'd appreciate your thoughts Best regards Lee Francis Wilhelmsen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Shane & Lorna Jenkins Subject: Re: Thank you ANZACS - Lest we forget >> Lest We Forget ... It's ANZAC** day in Australia and New Zealand - the principal day of remembrance for all those who served and sacrificed in war. To all those who served, I just want to say ... THANK YOU Men and women who served for our freedoms paid with their lives, limbs and health, and many others pay a price still in thousands of other ways - the nightmares, ghosts and demons that plague them always. We who have lived in peace all our lives are indebted to them and the families who paid a high price too. Fair winds and following seas, Mike Kear, ***NOTE FROM LISTMASTER*** I would also like to take this opportunity to pay respect to the SMML Readers who are descendants of the ANZACS, on behalf of everybody here, Lest We Forget, and thank-you! << To Michael & Greg, Thank you for your elequent words. You have put into words the true meaning of ANZAC, I couldn't have put it any better myself. In the words of the Dawn Service: They shall not grow old as we grow old. At the going down of the sun & of the rising, WE WILL remember them. LEST WE FORGET Shane Jenkins ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Dave Carter Subject: Re: HMS Hood Hi Chris, Re that photograph of Hood, this is actually a photo of Hood being bombed by Italian aircraft, not a photo of Hood shortly before she was sunk... as was originally thought by SAGA. I spoke to the editor a while back, and he said that they had more postings over this blunder than they had ever had on any other subject! In a later version of Saga, the naval photographer who took the original photograph, posted the original, which of course was pristine and showed much more.... such as the ID of the ship on the left of the pic, which of course is one of one of the Q.E.s... can't remember which one. These are a pain to make. I used to carve them individually (the quality was variable but never great) but I have tried casting some out of lead, to discover my moldmaking and casting skills were not up to making very good ones (besides the girlfriend not liking me casting lead in the kitchen). Is there a source for small boats in 1/1200 scale? Anybody have any suggestions for good mass-production in this scale? I am working on four Apollo-class cruisers (just finished the 48 ventilators required!) so I will need a lot of boats. Yours, James D. Gray ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Dublindogs Subject: NEED SOME HELP!! NEED SOME HELP!! Getting ready to build Tamiya KGV. Need advice on assembling deck sections. How can I eliminate seams without destroying plank detail? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Very Much Michael ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Ron or Julie Hillsden Subject: DIY Photoetch Can anyone give me a source for the mylar layered film which is used for dry photoetch? The only one I have been able to track down sells it in 50 foot rolls. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Ritchie_deutag, Colin" Subject: Re: HMS Hood >> Whilest doing a bit of research on the web I came across this interesting, and certainly historic, photograph of the Hood. It is probably one of the last images of the ship before her dramatic destruction from the guns of the Bismarck. Does anyone have a copy of the original article to which this one refers? http://www.saga.co.uk/publishing/history/hood2.html << Hi there, I'm probably only the first who'll reply to the is mailing in the negative I'm afraid. I remember the original debate that broke out when this picture came to light on the Saga page. First, its not really an unpublished picture is has been seen before, and Second it was take in the Med around 1940, and shows the Hood being bombed by Italian aircraft. I don't know if there were any pictures taken from the British side during the Bismarck action, but I have seen the odd German one, I guess everyone close up at action stations would prevent any pictures being taken, but I'll happily be proved wrong on this.
