Look for their ad in Fine Scale Modeler or they have a website, I think it is: http://www.goldmedalmodels.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: SantMin Subject: Re: resin casting >> Whoa! Bob Santos' suggestion about casting resin boats is more complicated than need be. Bob, you don't need to cast these boats in two half moulds. You can do them in one flat mould. << Paul, Different strokes for different folks. I guess we all have our favorite way of doing things. My method is much easier to do than to describe, however, I use methods similar to yours for some items and will opt for a one piece mold whenever I can. That said, I still like a two piece mold for boats. Try the new resin put out by Micro Mark. I like it even better than Por-a-kast. Less viscosity, slightly longer setting time, less bubble trouble, and produces a very nice pure white casting, I like their new rubber too, one to one mix. Cheers Bob Santos ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: SantMin Subject: Re: MFCA Show >> This is my first time to send mail to SMML-I hope I'm doing this right. I will be in the Philadelphia/Valley Forge, PA area in a couple of weeks for a miniature show and would like to know if there are any good naval oriented hobby shops in this area. If anyone has an interest in military miniatures, I highly recommend the Miniature Figure Collectors of America (MFCA) show. This years show will be at the Valley Forge Convention Center, May 15, 16. << Mansell, I have had a booth at this show for the past 26 years (not this year, I will be there just as a paying customer this year). You can find many naval related kits, figures, and books from both regular dealers and flea market people but I'm sorry to tell you that I cannot recommend a hobby shop in the area. The nearby King-of-Prussia Shopping Center has a great book store called "Gene's" which has a very good military/naval section. Bob Santos ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: BEN8800 Subject: Chrome Match Well, I tried the Testors chrome silver, and as I expected it only gave about a 50% improvement toward the kit chrome plated parts. I had sprayed the wheel spokes with floquil silver. I painted over them with the Chrome silver and it did make them glissen a lot more. Satisfactory for the wheels. The other parts will require the bare metal foil to come close to matching the kit chrome plating. Thanks all again for the advise.
