I've got some 2mm ones, but they're out of scale (or do you think it would be all that noticable)- plus I forgot where I got them. Does anybody know of an outlet for this type of thing? Thanks, Doug Bauer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Dariusz Lipinski Subject: Dresden/Emden I think the card model of this subject, produced by HMV in 1:250 scale would give you pretty good reference material when comes to the colors of these two ships as well as fantastic number of small differences between Emden and Dresden. I was really surprised when I saw how much these two sister ships differ from each other. I don't think that the Revell model comes even close to the HMV one when comes to the level of detailing. Plus, you can order a PE parts especially design for this kit, also from HMV. Hope somebody will find it useful. Darek ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: RCClem Subject: Re: Scale of Revell's SMS EMDEN & DRESDEN David Krakow asked about the scale of Revell's 1/350 Emden and Dresden. The hull measures 11.3 inches, and beam measures 1.4", which at 1/350 = 330 ft long and 41 ft wide. But see below. Bob Santos reported that the Naval Annual 1913 indivates that Emden was 364 ft long. Beam was 44.25 ft. However, Tom Dean reported that WL = 387.8 ft and OA 389.8 ft. Source not known. Can the 364 ft dimension be correct because it is measuring a different length? Can someone explain what the 364 ft dimension includes? In any case, Length: 364 ft x 12/11.3 = 1:386.5 scale 387.8 ft x 12/11.3 = 1:411.8 scale 389.8 ft x 12/11.3 = 1:413.9 scale Beam: 44.25 ft x 12/1.4 = 1:379 scale Is 11% to 18% off considered accurate for Revell and plastic kits in general? Are photoetch kits made true to scale or true to the plastic kit they are made for? Roger Clemens ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Dave Carter Subject: RMS Olympic WWI Camouflage Hi Ken, Re Olympic's camouflage, "Liners in Battledress" by David Williams, published by USNI, shows the starboard side of her in her first (wacky!) dazzle scheme on page 12. An oblique view of the port side is shown on page 60. There is a second scheme of which the port side is shown on page 61 and a view on page 62 taken from an aircraft astern shows a little of her starboard side, but a good view of the additional boats and stern guns that have been fitted. This book is worth seeking out anyway... photos of liners disguised as battleships took my breath away! If you would like these photos E-Mailed, please let us know, if you are unable to locate this now out-of-print book. Thank you for the kinds words Caroline, and we at Iron Shipwrights look forward to the eventual release of your kit, as well as the eventaul release of all of the other kits you've announced over the past year. We're glad to see that you've lowered the price of your kit from the $305.00 amount you have posted on your web site. Also, the 10% shipping charge you mention only applies to overseas orders, and there's a 15% direct order discount, which lowers the effective cost of our kit to only $185. I'm quite sure that WEM's Sheffield will be as challenging to the modeler as your Hood kit is, with all of those brass detail parts. However, buyers of our kit will find that all of these detail have been cast as part of the kit, and thus our need to produce a large quanity of brass parts isn't necessary. However, the modeler will find that this brass fret has been custom drawn to fit the production parts rather than the master or the drawings. Also, our kit is cast as a one piece, full hull kit, and the modeler will not have to pay extra for the lower hull. I thank you personally for providing a link for the modeler to compare both kits. I will have a reciprical one put into place from Warship as soon as yours is in place. BTW, this is just one of seven kits being readied for release by the US IPMS Nationals. In addition to HMS Sheffield, we will also be releasing the DD's HMS Hesperus and HMS Lance (both patterns were on display at last year's US IPMS nationals), DKM Graf Spee and DKM Prinz Eugen, the German Type 36a DD (also known as a Narvik class DD), and the HMS Queen Elizabeth BB. Thanks for the time. Jon Warneke Iron Shipwrights ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
