If you know of anyone or do such a service yourself, we would like to hear from you. Off list if you wish. Thanks, John Frohock Curator/Model Collection USNSM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "J Snelling" Subject: display of models Hi Bob, Try this, I'm in the process of building same, but you might need your wife's permission. Build a coffee table display unit. Make the base just deep enough to take the height ot masts, the top about 4 cms deep, fit some legs and a toughened glass top, and there you are. An advantage gained from this it gives a talking point for your guests without you doing much. If you send me your fax number I can send you a drawing of what I mean. John. But you will at least get a flavour of this industry, which actually spreads into all kinds of other areas. How long will it be before it reaches the hobby modeller I wonder? Thinks; I wonder if I can persuade my boss to fund a little 'staff training'? I will keep you posted! Thanks Caroline for the pointer to Lone Gunman Hobbies. Sorry I couldn't make the show, but I will certainly try to get to the next one, if not the IPMS Nats. Perhaps the Fletcher will be finished by then... Tim Perry, Bristol, United Kingdom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Michelle Roth" Subject: U.S. Coast Guard Cutters, deck colours and hull colours? Hello all. I recently acquired an old Hawk Models box scale U.S. coast guard cutter (U.S.S. Bibb). The model dates from 1967 and is 6 3/4" long. It looks to be about 1/700 or so...? I am building it using the Flagship Models PE set for U.S. destroyers and destroyer escorts and so far it doesn't look bad. I am not TOO concerned about getting every little detail EXACTLY correct on the finished model, but I want it to be a nice little generic version of a somewhat rare type of kit. The PE seems to look good as far as scale appearance. My questions are as follows; -does anyone know for sure what scale this kit is? -when was the U.S.S. Bibb built? -does this little kit even come close to looking like the Bibb? or ANY coast guard cutter for that matter? -what is a suitable hull colour? (I realize you can't go too wrong with gray, but did they ever use splinter or disruptive schemes on these ships?) -what were the hull #'s -was the deck on these ships steel or wooden and what colour would they be? -what literature is available on these subjects? It's not a bad looking little ship and I think it deserves a little TLC to try and make her look at least presentable!! Thanks in advance for your help, gentlemen.... The article in my magazine (Plastic Ship Modeler) cited by Art Nicholson (thanks Art) would probably not be helpful for the original question of PoW's appearance in the BISMARCK action. It only deals with the color pattern when she arrived at Singapore. However it would be useful for anyone doing the ship as lost. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
