It will have a full blown article on the modellers and the 45' model of the Titanic they built for the movie. It should answer a lot of questions I have seen here. Rusty White Flagship Models ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Torgeson Roger A Subject: MB/BWN Gambier Bay Steve, I got the kit, haven't started it yet still doing some research. Sure is a lot of stuff in the box. Only advice I could give you is get a copy of Al Ross's book The Escort Carrier Gambier Bay, it's published by the Naval Institute Press. ISBN 1-55750-235-8. Its got some good photographs of the Gambier Bay and a lot of drawings. Good luck Roger Torgeson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Seitz_Mark/AMARC_FM@amdiss1.dm.af.mil Subject: Revell Arizona Folks, I just started one of those "I'm going to do this someday" projects of converting Revell's Arizona to her 1941 Pearl Harbor appearance. I have Loren Perry's beautiful photoetch kit on order, but I'm really concerned about those 5"/25's. Does anyone know of a resin casting, or any kind of update for these? Failing that, has anyone scratchbuilt them? I could use some advice here, they're really bad. Also, I thought I had a pretty good reference library, but I don't seem to have any good drawings or photos of these mounts. All help appreciated. Mark Seitz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Alan Simon" Subject: Minicraft Titanic Sadly, another hobby shop (this time a franchised HobbyTown USA) bites the dust in Atlanta. The good news is they have (4-6 in stock, as of last week) the subject kit at 30% off list. List price shown is $74. Not sure about willingness to handle mail order, but give store a call at 770-393-4475. Clerk said they expected to be open through June. Greg, Just curious (trying not to slobber on my keyboard as I write this)...... WERE THERE ANY MORE ENTERPRISE KITS AT YOUR HOBBY STORE?? Is there a copyright year printed on the box? Is it printed in US, Japan, etc.? You indicated that the aircraft were of similar quality to the Tamiya kit - were they the same mix (F14/F18/A6/S3A/EA6B/E2C/SH3D) or were they the early-version CVN65 ARII mix (F14/F4/A6/A7/E2C/SH3D)? By the way, ARII produced an updated CVN65 with additional F18A and S3A aircraft. I recall the ARII aircraft fuselages look a bit on the thick side when compared to the Tamiya, (Tamiya's 1/350 aircraft are excellent scale renditions, I agree, and IMHO represent the strongest part of the overall kit), and when I build the ARII version (before and after) I'll probably use the ol' dremel to thin down the aircraft a bit. Lastly, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN GET ONE?? Better close now, left eye starting to twitch uncontrollably, Cheers. Joe Reyna ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Greg Lee (Listmaster - SMML) Subject: Re: Ever heard of CCLEE models? Hey Joe, Firstly, I am going Back there tommorow, so I will see if I can get you one, I assume you are in the U.S. So If I get one for you, with the rate so low at the moment, It will be more than a bargain for you - you will SAVE SAVE SAVE!! (And for those aussies on the list, how about a free set of steak knifes, and DON'T send any money, we'll bill you:-) Copyrighting on the box, Not a trace! It is printed mainly in Japanese, but the Actual word "Enterprise" is english. The instructions are Japanese from cover to cover. And I just noticed the display stand "IS" the display stand used in ARII large scale kits, like the 1/250 Yamato. I am certain this sucker came out of the ARII factory! Aircraft wise, it has Phantoms, Tomcats, Hawkeye's, bloated SeaKings (Dremel worthy:-), Its probly the updated kit your thinking off. Anyways, I will mail you tommorow and see if I can get another for you! Greg (Listmaster - SMML) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "T. J. KOENIGSFELD" Subject: displaying 1/350 ships Hello everyone, Does anybody know of a good place to buy various size display cases for models, such a the minicraft Titanic. I need to keep dust out of the models. Thanks. T. J. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Percy, John" Subject: Heller KGV Yesterday I saw a heller KGV in 1/400 scale. Is this a new kit??? It must be huge, close to 2 feet? It was around $30. Anyone heard of/built this? According to Hobbyweb, its new - just imagine if it is new, and this kit is on par with Heller's Richlieu! [...] Aside from the change in the main guns, would there be any other changes required? << Umm hmm. According to Breyer's "Battleships and Battlecruisers 1905-1970", Gniesenau would also have gained 10m at the bow, more 20mm AA, and a tripod mast list Scharnhorst. Breyer has side and overhead line drawings. Breyer's paperback on Gniesenau has the same info with more detail, but no drawings. Dulin and Garzke have even more detail (no surprise), and overhead/side line drawings of about twice the length. HTH.
