Specifically, I need lots of good clear photos with the box raised so I can see the inside guts of the box. I am seriously considering making a kit of this subject, but photos are very hard to come by. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Hi Alan) He's sneaking about out here you know, what we call a 'lurker', so don't praise him too much, his head might explode. Seriously though, Finding Alan's book is not an easy task, it has been out of print for a while. Bill Gruner at Pacific Front gets copies on occasion, but be prepared for $35.00, that seems to be the average. As many of you may have figured out by now, Alan is not only a good friend but my publisher as well. My first book, Fletcher, Gearing & Sumner Class Destroyers in WW2 is out (finally), released by none other than...Alan Raven's WR Press. If you can't find Alan's book, I think mine can be of use, Alan did a good majority of my line drawings. Jeff Herne, a.k.a. Embry Riddle Aeronautical University's library (the Daytona one) has a few of the D&S carrier books, but I don't remember if the Enterprise was one of them. Try a library exchange program if you're in the US maybe some other library has one to lend out. I did notice it seems to suffer from that famous Revel cut off bottom hull syndrome. I finished the Otaki 1/400 in 1974 fit, so I won't be needing it for a good while, it didn't cover the "E" in that timeframe very much anyway. If you can't find your own, let me know. I have been experimenting with very thin glass (obtained from Pacific Front Hobbies) placed behind PE Ladders or bridge window frames. It looks good but I do not know how to cut this glass - I generally end up shattering it and picking out suitable pieces from the rubble. Can anyone help me with my problem of cutting extremely thin glass? Lester Abbey Wellington New Zealand ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Alberto Rada Subject: Glazing Windows Hi List I just bought from Micro.Mark, a product called Micro.Glaze Window Glazing for Models You get two ¾ oz. Bottles for $ 5.95 , but with just one you have enough for about 500 models, so I shared it with another modeler. It's a white substance like white glue, but you dip the tip of a toothpick and apply around and then across the window or the porthole and let it dry, and the effect is impressive, its just a totally transparent glass, really amazing, you have to do it as the last step in your model, as thinner or lacquer touches it, it will get damped. I just applied this in a BWN 1/350 Kaguero's bridge with pretty good results. my 2 pesos SALUDOS Alberto ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: DaveRiley1@aol.com Subject: CLEVELAND CL ARMOR Still need placement info for the hull armor installed on US Cleveland class light cruisers. I have photos of every ship of this class - including one that was fully completed but never commissioned, but between them all I can not get a good handle on where the armor belt begins and ends. The photos are either too distant or at too great an angle. Is there no one out there with a good photo or diagram? Drawings obtained from a supplier of such things do not show the belt location. Dave Riley Portsmouth, RI - USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Christopher Nicholls Subject: RMS Titanic Folks, I was referred to you by someone from the seaways-shipmodeling-list - I sent the following request for assistance: My son who's birthday occurs later this month is mad keen on the RMS Titanic... He wants a model of it (which I will end up building...) and as I really only have experience in wooden planked models, I am at a loss in this instance. Can anyone recommend a model (make)and a supplier (preferably accessable in Australia) which I can source a quality model ship. I see that Academy/Minicraft has a good looking model - and have see comments specifically about that model on this list. Thanks very much! Regards Christopher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: John Sheridan Subject: Size of letters on the stern I have an interesting question: What were the size of the letters used on a US Navy Warship ?!?!? Specifically, the size of the letters for the name of the ship on the stern ofthe ship. I noticed in some pics I have seen of this kit that it depicts the ship in her early configuration. I would prefer to build her as she appeared in the "Ten 'Ichigo' Operation" April 1945, when she wore 5 mounts of Triple 25mm MG's on both sides, is the kit equiped with the pieces needed to finish her off in this era?
