I am also quite certain that there are some of us (me, for instance) who are not going. I can tell because the latest issue was....light. But surely those of us who remain behind for "the cause" can do more. Sure, I've been a bit lax myself but this is the time of year that the manager goes away for two and a half weeks and little old me gets to run the show open to close for that time. I'm still wondering if anyone has any info on the Aoshima "modernize" Yamato. The picture in the catalog shows the changes but is so small it is hard to tell. I have tried blowing up (bad choice of words, sorry) the image but it becomes far too grainy. I know also that it is the Yamato by the KataKana (I'm a bit rusty but some words I recognize). Is it possible that Aoshima produced this kit? If so, how do I get one? I'm planning a great conversion of the seen-better-days 1/350 Tamiya one sitting on my shelves. Thanks pwesty@ida.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Sue & Ben Subject: Horror stories Hi gang, Much like Colin Ritchie's story, mine isn't ship related. Unlike his however mine carries a certain finality. Some year's ago I was working on an Italeri M-7 Priest. For those of you not familiar with armour that's an American WW2 open topped self-propelled gun. I was all done assembling the kit save for scratching replacement screened in stowage baskets to replace the kit's solid (and incorrect) item. A simple enough task, to be sure.... The model was in front of me on my cutting board. Right behind it was the model's closed box. On the lid sat a brand new bottle of Tenax 7R whose cap was, unbeknownst to me (okay, so I wasn't paying attention), not tightened at all. The screen, which I was reaching for, was on the other side of the box. As I brought it to me, my hand knocked the bottle. Off flew the cap as the bottle upturned itself in the open fighting compartment of the hapless M-7. I have very good reflexes. I managed to save at least 3/5ths of the contents of my bottle. But. For those of you whom never worked with Tenax let me say that the stuff is fast. Very fast. By the time I had put the bottle back down it was far too late to save the model. I just sat there waiting (nay willing) for the stuff to go right through the bottom of the hull. Sadly (well something like that) the glue evaporated before this could happen. I have since built another M-7. I have also learned to put my modeling liquids bottles in large blocks of foam for stability. Live and learn.
