What he now needs is a set of cannons, gun carriages, etc. Does anyone know where I might obtain a set of these guns in this scale. I have considered purchasing the plastic 1/96 kit for its guns, but I was hoping for something better. Bluejacket sells a 1/96 wooden model for about $450 and when I inquired thru a local hobby shop about purchasing a set of the guns for this model I was quoted a >price in the $300s - yikes !!! Any help out there ?? << Hi Dave, You might try giving Model Expo a call. They've got a large assortment of accessories for just those types of models. Although shipbuilders are still the hidden minority, we're making inroads. There were several seminars for the shipmodeler conducted by Alan Raven and Jeff Herne on July 3. Alan Raven's discussion on RN camoflauge schemes was quite interesting, highlighted with rare photos, drawings, and a dry sense of humor. Apparently there will be a new Alan Raven book illustrating these rare camo jobs (can't wait for it). One of the more interesting schemes described by Alan Raven was one of HMS Arethusa painted for a commando raid in Norwegian waters in late 1941 with grays, blues, and swastikas (something for Caroline and Dave to research for a possible WEM kit). Jeff Herne provided the attendees with some levity during his talk on US camoflauge measures due to some computer glitches (maybe it's time to break up Microsoft and let Apple take over the world). Great fun all around. Also, a tip from Alan Raven for painting ship models. Weather it with cigar ashes (maybe it should be taken with a grain of NaCl). More manufacturers are paying attention to ship modelers. I guess. Tamiya had the new Yamato on display. Iron Shipwrights, White Ensign Models, and Classic Warships had examples of their latest products and it looks like a good year for ship modelers. WEM's new 1/700 Warspite should be a winner, judging by the hull casting on display, and even some airplane modelers were drooling over Caroline and Dave's wares. Now if somebody can come up with some good paints for ship modelers (Aeromaster are you listening?). Let's hope future Nationals will bring more good news for the nautically inclined ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "John Clarke" Subject: RE U-Boat Reference Hi If you want any drawings of the type VII U-Boat let me know I have a copy of "Anatomy of the Ship Type VII U-Boat" & can Scan the relevant pages & email them to you.
