My hard drive belched and fried all of my stored volumes. By the way, I hope you are feeling better soon. With the List Mistress in charge we can't talk about all of those resin kits you've been sneaking into the house. ;-) Mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Greg Lee (Listmaster - SMML) Subject: Re Previous editions of SMML Hi Mike, Back issue's of SMML is not a problem, I can just re-mail them to you, all I need is the volume number or date of the issue/issues you want, and I will get them to you ASAP. I am currently organising the archive, and will get it to Rob very soon so it can go up on the site, were it will all be readily available for everybody, anytime. Until then, back issue's are available upon request. I am back on deck today, and feeling better, and the resin kits, well, there have been a few lately:-) Thanks for your note, Best Wishes Greg (Listmaster - SMML) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: CA139JOHNF@aol.com Subject: Help, US Navy Helicopters Hello Group, I am in need of information regaridng USN Shipboard helicopters, particularly Sikorsky HO3S-1 and Piasecki HUP-1. Has anyone any plans or a model kit of these 'Whirley Birds' ? John Frohock USNSM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Sue & Ben Subject: The List Mistress All hail the List Mistress!! Thanks for carrying the torch Brooke. And may Greg get well soon. Cheers Ben Montreal, Canada ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Manuel P. González López" Subject: Re: A Spanish Vittorio Veneto Hello The Battleships for the Spanish Navy (Armada Española) were of the Impero or Roma Subclass (with the large bow). No serious works were made in the construction because of the WW II. The Spanish Navy never had many plans of these ships and the only real work was the construction of some big slipways. The AA armament is totally hypothetical, but in my opinion the 105 mm German guns and German light guns (37 and 20 mm quads and single) are more probably. The 120 mm of the Garzke and Duilin is a Vickers gun. This is the 4.7 of the Nelson class, used in the Spanish Navy in the Canarias Class. Double mounts and not the single mount of the Canarias and Nelson class are more probably. About the names of the ships, I do not know anything . But "BALEARES", "ESPAÑA" (the most important ships lost by the Nationalist in the Spanish Civil War) and "CARLOS V" or "FELIPE II" are coherent with the political situation. About colors: They are similar to the pattern of the British Mediterranean Fleet prewar, this is the best option. Manuel P. González López. I have done extensive research including a review of the existing deck logs and have found some glaring errors of fact in the main english language book on German Destroyers. The one area that I have been having trouble with is contacting former members of the crews of these ships( or any of the other DD's for that mater). << I built the pattern for a 1:100 scale Z-39 hull for a model company, and during the course of my research I found that the Naval Historical Center had a series of photos for the DD-935 and DD-939. These turned out to be the ex-German T-35 and Z-39. The photos show the ships in both drydock and at a pier, along with several underway shots. If anyone is interested, I can supply the negative numbers so you can order the shots directly from the center. Kurt Greiner SeaPhoto Maritime Photography ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: SeaPhoto@aol.com Subject: Gibbs and Cox Models Pardon if you have seen this request on a newsgroup, but I am trying to determine the location of ship models by the firm of Gibbs and Cox in the US. If you know where one of these extrodinary models is on display, or stored, could you please post or let me know? I hope to put together a list. Thanks! Could someone help me find the plans and station plans I would be greatful. I have failed in trying myself this is my last chance thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Ives100@aol.com Subject: Re: Los Angeles class submarines >> The Navy then promptly repaints the sub so that the upper half of the hull is all black and the lower section is red. Also all pennent numbers is masked. Props are bronze coloured(or not painted ie). The brieflet was written by among others David Merriman who is regarded as a kind of guru in the RC sub sphere. << Indeed, we in the SubCommittee do revere David as a guru. Seriously, David Merriman is highly knowledgable about submarines, and you can trust what he says about the paint schemes. Having been present at the "sliding" of the USS Hartford at Electric Boat, she was indeed painted red up to the waterline. I've seen several LA subs in drydock at the sub base in Groton, and they are red only half way up the hull, with the upper half a chalky dark black. There are NO identifying numbers on the hulls after sea trials. They do hang a removable number board on the side and a name and insignia on the gangway when in port. Tom Dougherty ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Michael Eisenstadt Subject: HMS Dorsetshire Folks: I am researching HMS Dorsetshire as she appeared in her post 1937 refit (for a conversion of the Hi Mold 1/700 scale kit which shows the ship in an earlier fit), and have been told that the Imperial War Museum used to have on display a Norman Ough (I hope I've spelled his name right) model of Dorsetshire in her post 1937 appearance in a floating drydock type setting. Would anyone have photos of this model that I could borrow or pay you to duplicate? The model should be very helpful in providing details not evident in the few photos of the ship that I have (from the Raven and Roberts Man O'War monograph on the County Class cruisers and their book on British Cruisers in WWII). I would be grateful for any help here. Thanks! Yours truly, Mike Eisenstadt ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: Michael Eisenstadt Subject: Seeking Address of A.M. Hall Folks: Would any of our friends in the U.K. be able to tell me where I can contact a modeler by the name of A. M. Hall? He is the builder of a beautiful 1/96 scale model of the HMS Janus (WWII era J-K-N class destroyer) that appeared on page 80 of an excellent book edited by John Bowen, titled: Scale Model Warships (New York, Mayflower Books, 1978). I'm building the WEM 1/700 scale HMS Kashmir kit as HMS Janus and would like to contact Mr. Hall to see if I can obtain additional photos of his fine model to assist with super-duper-detailing the WEM kit (since the detail level out-of-the-box is quite good to begin with). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! I have been overwhelmed by the flood of letters, and the sincerity of the words. Once again - THANK YOU! How about a round of applause for the Lust Mistress extraordinare! She stepped up to the plate without a hint of hesitation. A tough job very well done!!! BTW - For those who asked, Mrs Greg/Listmistress is Brooke. And for those who are getting ready to put their head in the oven/hand in a blender cause they can't keep up with my fantastic new volume numbering technique (Sorry Guys). My Ol Pal Henry Blecha called me on that, I am sure he is questioning the Aus Education system. Its very simple, I didn't really mess up, I am just questioning the sequence of the traditional numeric order - who says the numbers HAVE to go in that order anyway:-) Oh well Henry, you'll be pleased to know I did botch that X-Wing Fighter, I'll explain that in a **PRIVATE**, I just can't bring myself to publicly announce my latest modelling triumph ;~/. Thanks All Greg (Listing to port-master - SMML) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Shaya Novak" Subject: 1/1200 Shinano For those of you with small pockets The Naval Base has the 18 different Revell Plastic 1/1200 ships some are at our website: http://www.navalbasehobbies.com plus new arrivals such as the Prinz Eugen, Iron Duke and the Shinano.
