I realise this may be in vain but it is worth a try. Airfix Humbrol Ltd. Marfleet Lane Kingston-Upon-Hull HU9 5NE England Phone # 44-1428-701191 << Been there, done that. On the one hand, I can assure you it is in vain. The folks in charge are concentrating on 1/48 aircraft, because that's where the money is. On the other hand, I don't want to discourage you from trying. If enough of us tilt at windmills, maybe they'll get the message. I'd still like to see a 1/600 Invincible, or Type 22/3, or even a Renown, to go with their excellent Repulse. David R. Problem is, of course, that none of these escorts is available in 1/700 or 1/720. << I beg to differ. Dragon (I belive) reissued the Skywave Adams class and it was available last time I checked with Pacific front Hobbies. A nautical mile is the distance on the Earth's surface subtended by one minute of latitude at the Earth's centre. Since the Earth is not a perfect sphere a nautical mile is shortest at the equator. The arithmetic mean of a nautical mile is 6077 feet which has been rounded off to 6080 feet (1852m). Airspeed is measured in the same nautical miles per hour. Harold Lincoln ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: ECammeron@aol.com Subject: Re: ENTERPRISE Escorts during VietNam: When she was in TF-77, ENTERPRISE had whatever escort was available during the line period. Could be a DLGN, a DLG or DD. Lots of FRAM GEARING Class DDs served as escort or Plane Guard. If you can find copies of ALL HANDS from the mid 1960's, lots of Unit Citations for groups of TF-77 give group composition. Also, USNI Naval Review during those years has some info. Since there were more DD-710 ships available than DDG-2 ships, you could include a 710 FRAM and be period correct. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Douglas Martin" Subject: Airfix Bismarck/Tirpitz Ken: The Airfix Bismarck/Tirpitz kits are identical except that Tirpitz has 2 holes in the deck, aft of the catapult for 2 sets of Torpedo tubes, 1 per side. I built more than 6 of these kits, in various guises and build qualities from 1967 to 1973, none have survived the rigors of time. Tirpitz should have a completely different AA rig out, have a peek at the Tamiya Catalogs, with magnifying glasses handy. The best AA parts would come from a Prinz Eugen, but that is a hell of a way to upgrade Bismarck. Revell made a Bismarck or a least a Tirpitz, I remember the box art with dazzle camouflage (Tirpitz), I think it had the different AA set up. Airfix AA guns of the 1973/4 onwards were much better quality, see Belfast/Prinz Eugen, Graf Spee, KGV, Repulse, than their predecessors. In fact the Bismarck kit is 'horrible' compared to current fair.......those 16* 4.1" are yukkkk, the 37mm with steps.....aarghhhh!
