Her decks were interesting in that not only were some of her upper superstructure walkways in definite paths, they were also (mostly) outlined in white (really helps you see the deck when there is no moon and the ship is running dark, believe me). I can't speak for many Ticonderogas, but I know that some Spru-cans definitely have the walkway variations. The foc'sle and fantail are almost always coated entirely in no skid (except for the very edge, about as wide as the bitts, where it is deck gray). The variations that I have seen occur on the signal bridge and upper superstructure decks (between the Harpoon canisters and the main/foremasts). Take a closer look at some more Spruances and you should see variation. Hope that clarifies things. Mike P.S. I still stand by my comment that no two ships are *exactly* alike...just look at the smaller details. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Rob Mackie" Subject: Gato Class 4" 50 caliber Deck Gun I will soon be publishing a complete photo tour of the USS Pampanito, a Balao class sub on display in San Francisco. I consider this the best photo tour that I've done thus far. Among the pictures are excellent shots of her 4"50 caliber deck gun. I expect to have this feature on line in early May, work permitting (and it hasn't permitted much of anything lately). If you can't wait, contact me off list and I will email the photos of the 4"50 deck gun. This should give you most of what you need to fully detail or scratchbuild your own. In the U.K. a (principally) dockyard worker is known as a dockyard matey.. hence, the "Dockyard Mateys" range of 1/700 diorama accessories. Does (or did) the U.S. use an equivalent term? Your imput much appreciated! Cheers! We had 02 level between the stacks and around the Tass van. I was looking at some pics I took of our towed array on the fantail and there is definite areas intended as walkways. One I can see as an example, is a complete circle around the 5"54 cal that is a foot wide and is just next to the gun. As was mentioned by the other poster, it varies form ship to ship. I don't model in 1/350 scale so I have no personal knowledge, but I hear the BWN models are really nice. I like the WWII US destroyers and have been thinking of getting this kit myself, but my backlog is too big already. The Naval Base is not one of my distributors and I am not seeking additional outlets at this time. Contact one of them for kit availability.
