The first question that springs to mind is why? But if you insist here are a few: 1" = 58'-4" 1" = 19yds 1ft 4inches 1" = 0.8838384 chains 1" = 0.08838384 furlongs 1" = 0.011047979798 miles (statute, of course) << Yeah, But this is all useless to me unless you can also give me the conversion in RODS and CUBITS. ;-) Fritz Koopman Suffering the fifth straight day of 90+ deg weather up here in Salem MA, and still no rain. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Felix Bustelo Subject: Maritime Things to do in NYC Hi, I would like to comment on the South Street Seaport Museum. It is an excellent place to visit and by a decree of Congress, it has been designated as the National Maritime Museum in conjunction with the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, Virginia. There are 6 museum ships: two schooners - the Pioneer and the Lettie G. Howard which have regular sailing schedules. two windjammers - The Peking and the Wavertree a tugboat - W.O. Decker that is also in working condition a light ship - The Ambrose In addition, there are permanent and changing exhibits about various aspects of life and work in New York Harbor. There is a permanent collection of ocean liner memorabilia which includes a huge, 15 foot (this is a guess) builder's model of the Queen Mary and the original ship's wheel from the Normandie. There are a lot of high-end retail shops and restaurants in the area (the alleged "tourist traps"). The museum is not roped off or gated (like Mystic Seaport), so it co-exists with these business establishments, some of which are located in period buildings. It is a fun place to visit and definitely worth a stop while in New York. For more info, visit the website at: http://WWW.southstseaport.ORG/index.htm Also here's the website for the Intrepid Air/Space Museum - also a great place to visit. http://www.intrepid-museum.com/ Contact me off line about when you will be in New York. I will be glad to show you South Street - I work a few minutes from there. Actually, this invitation is extended to any SMMLer that visits NYC. Regards, Felix Bustelo Member - South Street Seaport Museum. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: CHRIS DRAGE Subject: Scales rules HI All SMMLies, The 1:700 to inches (My God!! - mm please) has spurred me to ask the collective knowledge : Is there a 1:700 scale rule on the market? It would certainly make scratch building items much easier. There has been talk of one around but I have never been able to ascertain who produces it. Happy modelling. It is quite a decent kit with lots of potential, but I have no references, indeed I can't find out anything about it. Can anyone out there help me? A picture or a reference would be great, but just some info would sufficient. TIA Graham Holmes Columbus OH Entering our second month of drought -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Douglas Bauer Subject: Helo deck on USS Cimarron I'm finishing up JSP's rendition of USS Cimarron (AO177)...unfortunately, JSP provided absolutely no photos or information on the after helo deck on this vessel. I've looked everywhere, including Cimarron's website and can't find anything on this feature. Can anyone tell me where I might find a picture of it, or give me a reasonably detailed graphic description of it so I can scratch one out. Thanks Doug Bauer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Pletscher-Lenz-Schneider" Subject: New WSW Kit I just received the new WSW kit of the Imperial Russian battleship PETROPAVLOVSK of 1914. Again this kit has very nicely done details. The deck, for example, shows the segment-planking, which was usual with Russian ships, and lots of coaling hatches. I was first thinking of converting her into a WW2 version, but it is too good looking. Colours used were 507C, white, B5, MS2 and MS1. << With the exception of the white, all those colours are in our Royal Navy Set 1 paint chips (and the white is matched/mixed and will be in RN Set 2). I Also wish to thank all of you who have voted and keep your fingers crossed.
