Make your life simpler and get some Dio Sol. << I may be wrong, but I think Dio-Sol may have been discontinued when they changed the Floquil formulae from laquer to "enamel". If you have any infomation I would apperciate it. Thank you, Cliff Collins -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Sean D. Hert" Subject: Cyclone Class PC Kit Hello All- I was wondering if anyone knew of a plastic kit available for a Cyclone class PC? After watching the special on the History Channel last night, I want to build one of these! Thanks, Sean D. Hert Webmeister, MBG Site: http://www.netwalk.com/~popev/bg/ Ringmaster, Big Gun R/C Warship Combat Ring "History doesn't always repeat itself... sometimes it just screams 'Why don't you listen when I'm talking to you?' and lets fly with a club." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Douglas Martin" Subject: Re: Holiday Snaps Folks: Excellent, I'll take a trip to the local 'Boots' and find out more, of course, I should have looked at the endless 'printing and developing' options more closely. Priority number one was to see how good the camera, in conjunction with me, would take good photos! If things work out ok, then I'll be happy to make them available. Thanks, Douglas -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Torgeson Roger A KPWA" Subject: Fort Drum Nat, Look for a book called "The Concrete Battleship" by Francis J. Allen, the publisher is Pictorial Histories. The copy I have was only $8.95 a few years ago. Get in touch with by e-mail address. and I can send the ISBN number and let you know about what drawings are included Roger Torgeson -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Puckhead93@aol.com Subject: Re: Pearl Harbor Movie I agree with Marc, Savo Island and Iron Bottom Sound are rich in history and plenty of stories to be told. And how many movies have they made about Pearl? Too many! And not that I dont like alot of action, but messing a love story in there will blow it all to hell! Its time to forget the stupid romance and blow some stuff up. How bout everyone else? Josh Mayne -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "David Hathaway" Subject: Rendel Gunboat - looking for plans Here is one I am hoping the list can help me with. I am looking for the plans of a British Navy Rendel (Rendell?) Gunboat. These were small steam gunboats, built around 1880-1895, about 100-150 feet long and armed with a single big gun, usually 9" or 10" MLR or BLR. Most were built by Armstrong Whitworth. One name I may have is HMS Insolent. I have seen a couple of pictures of a working model in an old Model Boats, it went under the name of HMS Fidget, but this may be fictitious. Can anyone help? Regards David -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "chenyangzhang" Subject: Illustrious Class Hi Yohan You're forgeting the all up weight included all the stores and supplies for these aircraft which is what would have put the overall weight above the limit. Certain stores were included for treaty purposes. Theoretically the later Illustrious's carried 72 aircraft in hangers but only included an extra half hanger. This didn't permit a doubling of the aircraft load. The earlier ones had the space for 50 to 60 but as I said the deception was about aircraft numbers. Outriggers were used but they weren't that common. If you look at the photos of the carriers with aircraft there are perhaps one or two out-riggers. There main use was to free up certain important areas of the deck not mass storage of aircraft. Storage of aircraft on deck during the later war years was more due to increasing aircraft size more than anything else. Chris Langtree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Suvoroff@aol.com Subject: USS Long Beach >> I just got a JAG 1/700 USS Long Beach today << What particular year/configuration does this represent? Yours, James D. Gray -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: Stephen C Gustafson Subject: Ft. Drum Nat, You'll probably have a gazillion responses pretty much like this one. Get a copy of THE CONCRETE BATTLESHIP by Francis J. Allen. The revised, enlarged version is still very much in print. Very interesting and helpful and the price is right, around $9.00 plus postage. Best, Steve Gustafson -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: "s" Subject: American Scout C-2 cargo ship I'm repairing a large model ship about 50 inches long. Its name is American Scout and is a type C-2 Cargo ship. It was a kit and made from balsa wood. Can someone tell me the manufacturer of this ship ? And any info about it. I'm not sure its age but esimate at least 15 -20 years old. I need internet photo sources for it and information about the real ship Are there any still in use. Any help would be useful. Thanks Lawrence R. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13) From: "R. Keith Reed" Subject: HMCS Protecteur Correction Replace NB2JRVJ2LR with N82JRVJ2L4 (not case sensitive) Keith -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14) From: Michael Eisenstadt Subject: Japanese "Solid Casting" Resin Kits Folks: A check of the "Solid Casting" model website (see SMML for the two previous days for more info and the web address) shows that this company currently has underway masters for 1/700 models of the fleet oilers Neosho and Cimmaron (in two versions each: high and low in the water!) as well as plans for models of HMS Repulse (1941), Exeter (1942), and USS Indianapolis (1945). For more info, click the hyperlink button on their home page to what they call "catalog 3" which has info concerning WWII era allied ships. Someone has to find a way to import these to the U.S.! Thought some of you would be interested in this... Best wishes, Mike Eisenstadt -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15) From: Keith Butterley Subject: Hazy thank you Hi group, Thankyou to everybody who made my haze problem, crystal clear. As for my "white" Ark Royal, from now on I will just tell people that I did her up as she would look on a cold day covered in frost. Keith Butterley -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 16) From: Suvoroff@aol.com Subject: Re: Ft. Drum Do you have _The Concrete Battleship_, by Francis J. Allen? This may still be in print, it is a large-format (magazine-size) paperback, 52 pages, with many photographs and drawings. Pictoral Histories Publishing Co., Missoula, 1989. Yours, James D. Gray -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17) From: "Fernando, Yohan" Subject: USS Massachusetts Hi, Last year, the USS Massachusetts was in drydock and was repainted. Does anyone know if she was repainted in any wartime measure or just plain (and boring) haze gray? I sure hope they painted her as she would have looked at some point during the war. For a long time when I was younger, I thought warships were pretty boring since they were all the same bland color. It was a pleasant surprise when I realized that they were painted in a variety of colors during WWII and made the idea of building a collection of model ships that much more interesting. I think seeing a battleship in real, dressed up in an accurate WWII paint scheme would create alot more interest in people that normally might not be interested in just another plain gray ship. The North Carolina is a great example of really bringing the ship to life with an accurate and historical paint job. Sorry for the rant...
