Smith" Subject: Oriskany status Happened to be in Beaumont last week, and flew out directly over Oriskany, which is moored next to what looks like a similarly sized amphib. ship that I can't identify (reminds me of the USS ____ County ships, if that means anything). Weather was terrific, and I had binocs, but forgot to take a camera. I should have - the visibility was incredible. The ship is intact except for the mast, which is gone - the island is all there, as are the "catchers" on the bow. The ship is overall a tannish gray color (weathered & rust-streaked paint, I assume) with the exception of the portside elevator, which is a much bluer gray. The flight deck has no markings, which makes sense, as I understand that a mothballed carrier has the decks covered with plywood or something like that. It looks like painted balsa wood - you can see the "grain" but no markings. There are some marks or other evidence of activity on the forward part of the angled flight deck, but I couldn't tell what it was. Michael Smith Marshall, Texas -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Rod Dauteuil Subject: Bermuda Exhibits Hello all, I know this may be a long shot, but does anybody know if there are any ships or naval displays in Bermuda? I'm heading down there next week (to get away from this New England autumn) and it would be nice to see a British warship for a change. Thanks, Rod -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "William B. Smallshaw" Subject: PSM Quarterly Does anyone on the list have a status for the release of the next issue of PSM Quarterly? Bill Smallshaw -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Douglas Subject: Kriegsmarine flag decals Where can I get some Kriegsmarine flag decals in 1:72 scale....I read somewhere that someone was offering real scale cloth ones, too. Any suggestions? Doug Bauer Poway, CA USA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Robert Fish" Subject: ship modelers This is for all scale ship modelers, for that hard to find kit from 1;48 720 scale, at least look at the kits for sale at below Market price this site also has a list of Model making Companies and people that are on the keel hauling list, its fare to say if you rip-off-someone!, sooner or later we;ll. find you out, this site came to me as I posted Information regarding working with decals in detail, Enjoy modeling. Thank you. Paulo Liberato -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Brett Merrill Subject: Deck Edges Does anyone have any good tips on how to fill the gap between the deck edge and the side of the hull on a plastic kit without sanding off the plank lines on the deck? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Lars Scharff" Subject: NNT, Sydney and ORP Dragon From: "leigh crutchley" >> Anyone have any information on a companny called NNL? They are supposedly putting out a model of the HMAS Sydney. << Hi Leigh, NNT plans to release a kit of HMAS Sydney. It will be sold together with Kormoran. Other kits to release are: USS Iowa (1980) SMS Mackensen KuK Erzherzog Ferdinand/Zriny SMS Stuttgart Brandenburg (Bundesmarine) Kormoran/Sidney (2 kits in one) SMS Goeben/SMS Breslau (2 kits in one) Hamburg (Bundesmarine) H-Class Their homepage is http://www.nntmodell.com The quality is like Samek (see Plastic Ship Modeller). I want to build the light cruiser ORP Dragon (ex-British) from a 1/400 paper kit (JSC), copied to 1/700. Did somebody knows the exact number and mounts of her 2 cm AA guns at the time of her sinking? Has somebody photos or plans of Dragon in 1944? I want to convert Dragon to other C and D-class cruisers, e.g. HMS Delhi (1942), HMS Caledon (1941), HMS Coventry (1940 or 1942) and HMS Carlisle (1942). Are there any useful book (besides Whitley, Morris' Cruisers of the RN and Commonwealth Navies)? MSG Lars -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Mike Leonard" Subject: Photoetch for Soviet Warships Gold Medal Models makes an excellent set of PE for 1/700 Soviet-Russian-CIS warships. Would work very well with the Kombrig MOCKBA or the Skywave kits. He was supposed to send me a book five weeks ago, and numerous e-mails have gone unanswered. I've had great service from him before, and wonder if something is up. Thanks in advance. Jay Schantzen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: Roland Mar Subject: Re: kids these days TO: Shahriar Khan Young man, you are to be congratulated. A knowledge of history will help render you immune to the simplistic calls of demagogues who claim to be able to solve the world's problems if we just give them power. It will teach you to understand the commonality between all peoples, while acknowledging that there are cultural differences that must be accepted and allowed for. It will teach you that good and evil in all their forms are individual traits, not those of any race, religion, or ethnic group. My best to you and your friends. Are they white or other color is used? Was in this scheme used countershadihg under the overhangs? I think that the Modoc with the US flag rigged like an awning and Swordfish flying over would make a great diorama! Then there were the 378's that did a lot of convoy patrols (the Hamilton was the only ship of this class lost during the war) and participated in the D-day landings. There were also the Wind class Icebreakers and the Storis and Northland on Arctic patrols...
