Shane & Lorna -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "Fernando, Yohan" Subject: Re: IJNS Kongo Michael, When the Kongo class ships were modernized and re-fitted, all the extra length to the hull was added on the stern. Yohan Fernando -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Einar Kr Holtet" Subject: H.M.S. Kelly Hi, friends. Have recently read the famous novel Freedom at Midnight - about Britain and India in 1947 - and about Louis Mountbatten, who was Supreme Commander Southeast Asia during WWII - before being appointed Viceroy of India in 1947. In the early 1940s he took carge of the newly commissioned destroyer H.M.S. Kelly. This ship was through a dramatic series of battles until finally it was hit by a bomb off Crete and went down in minutes. The story of Kelly has later been filmed. "In Which We Served" became a bit of immortality. It was made by Mountbattens good friend Noel Coward. Where is a good kit of HMS Kelly? Einar Hi Einar, Check out White Ensign Models kit resin of the HMS Kelly, I have it & it's a very nice kit (although I'll be coverting it to a RAN N class eventually). Shane -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: SteveWiper@aol.com Subject: Re: IJNS Kongo >> Two questions: 1) When the Kongo class where rebuilt and the additional 25 feet where added to the hull. Where was it added? Forward, aft, midships multiple places? << The 25 feet added to the hull was in the stern area. The Tamiya "Random Details of IJN Vessels" has a diagram in the volume dealing with hull details, showing the modification. >> 2) In Classic Warships book on the Kongo's are the drawings all to the same scale and what is it? << No. Every one of the drawings are to a different scale to fit the page. Get out your calculator and ruler and figure the scale to each by using the measurements provided in the stat's page at the back of the book. I hope you liked the book after all. So far, at least 1200 other people, and counting, do. Steve Wiper -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: JOHN CURRIE Subject: Re Bangor Class Hi Gord, >> Has anyone ever produced one of the 'BANGERS' in any scale? I appreciate that I could Scratch but if there was a kit that I could add PE stuff to it would speed up the process next winter. << See WWW.SKYTREX.COM look under TRITON 1/600 Coastal forces, kit no CF35, white metal. Regards John Liason Officer for Trinity Vessel PATRICIA for IFOTS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Ken Youngstrom Subject: Re: Despatch #9 The probable source for the Lindberg kit was Model Shipways who made a full-hull kit of the Despatch #9 for many years. You'd think that if someone was going to plagiarize it they'd at least change the name, say to Despatch #8! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Victor M. Baca" Subject: Re: Wet Queen >> Is this some sort of bad New Zealander joke? << You should see the cartoon she had on her forward gun house: a "Wet-ass" Queen fallen in a puddle... Victor Baca -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Bradford Chaucer Subject: Re: Flower upgrades >> There are no pictures, but at least one of the modeling web sites has a review of a few of the detail kits. If you bought them all, all you would keep from the original kit is the hull! You'd also be out a few hundred $$$. Good luck. << Larry, you are guilty of a serious misrepresentation here. You also use the kit rudder with the complete Parkins sets!! Actually also the screws I think :-) One important point about these sets is that they are offered in modules. You can pick and choose the ones you want, and forgo others, though I think that the entire set is worth the expenditure. Regards, Bradford Chaucer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Victor M. Baca" Subject: Re: Bangor Class Models >> Has anyone ever produced one of the 'BANGERS' in any scale? << Try Loyalhanna Dockyard. They list one from Sirmar in 1/48 scale (HMS Blythe). Have fun with it, Victor Baca -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Bonini S.r.l." Subject: Arromanches Hi from Italy, Yesterday, in a hobby shop in Milano, I saw a Heller "Arromanches" in 1/400 scale, factory wrapped, at a discounted price of about 18 US$. As this is a quite rare kit and the price is very good, if somebody is interested, please let me know.
