Am I the only one this happens to? << I believe this is a truism. I've certainly had it happen to me. For the USS NJ model, I stopped, stepped back 3 feet, and realized that while I could go on adding details, no one would see them unless they were right on top of the model. Yes, I certainly missed some things (like funnel caps, I just noticed), but, as Patsy, trusty servant to King Arthur Pendragon, said, "It's only a model." I beleive there comes a time for every model when you have to say "It's done" and put it on the shelf. Joe Poutre -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: ALROSS2@aol.com Subject: Re: Rigging for America of America's Cup Fame >> the History of American Sailing Ships by Howard I Chapelle has a drawing of "America" with a very simple rigging and sail plan. I suspect it's very over-simplified but it maybe "better than poke in the eye with a sharp stick." << Contact BlueJacket Shipcrafters (www.bluejacketinc.com). They have detailed plans and a manual on AMERICA. Al Ross -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: SHIPMDLR@aol.com Subject: Detail and Scale Enterprise book to be reprinted! Bert Kinsey told me at the Nationals that the D&S Enterprise book will be reprinted very soon. No updates or new information, but reprinted nonetheless. When, I don't know. Just passing the good news on to those who have been seeking this book. As part of my opening "let's get to << Have you considered doing a video of your presentation?? Regards, Bradford Chaucer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Craig R Bennett Subject: Norfolk Navy Yard Hi Guys I've just returned from vacationing in Norfolk Va. An I came across a bargain. For $14.00 you can get a tour of the Norfolk Navy Yard plus a ticket for the Nauticus Museum where the USS Wisconsin BB-64 is maintained at. The museum is 3 levels. Dealing with the battleship, navy, the area (Hampton Roads) and the sea. You ride a navy tour bus for the the base tour, but, you must use your own car to go to the Nauticus Museum. Craig -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Devin J. Poore" Subject: Hull Plating Feedback Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about the hull plating methods. I'm going to start painting and experimenting this weekend. Devin -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Keith Butterley Subject: Warship Books, the bug is dead Hi all, Thank you Kerry for passing on the information. So much for Norton Anti-Virus protection, ptui! Happy modeling Keith Butterley warshipbooks.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Pletscher-Lenz-Schneider" Subject: New WSW Kit I just got the new WSW kit of the Austro-Hungarian cruiser S.M.S. Zenta. WARNING! This is no model kit in the common sence. It is, actually, an almost complete model. The hull with all the vents, funnels and upperworks are molded in one piece with a very nice and delicate engraved planked deck and full-plastic anchor chains. All you have to build in is the bridge (1 part) and the resin-cast masts. Boats and guns -even the small machine guns for the bridge wings - are resin-cast. There is also a PE fret with the davits, the bridge supports, ladders and railings. There are two lengths of brass rod for the yard arms and the barrels of the casemate guns. Finally there is an Austro-Hungarian war flag included. Except for the paint job, even a beginner should be able to complete this model within half an hour. Let the paint job take you some two hours, and you can "build" the whole model in one evening. This is what I don't call "model building" no longer ;-)) Falk Pletscher -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Paul Jordan Subject: Plastic model ID Can anyone please help me identify the following plastic model military vessel. It is a low quality (Pyro type) model of what maybe an early '50's Minesweeper approx 17" long and 3.5"beam in approx 1/140 scale. It depicts a steel welded plate hull with very lightly raked bow, single small funnel and radius edged transom and propelled by a single screw. The bridge is open and the deck fittings include a single motor lifeboat, twin stern mounted depth charge racks and so much medium and light calibre deck armament as to make its authenticity suspect. The modeler who assembled it (since deceased) was knowledgeable in Royal Navy vessels so it might be an interpretation of a British prototype. He had painted the hull black with red boottop and applied the numbers M14 to the side of the hull (not part of an original decal kit). There is no identification whatsoever molded into any of the plastic parts nor any clues as to the manufacturer of the kit. I realize this is very sketchy information but I do have an image of the model if anybody thinks they can identify it and wishes to contact me off list.
