I'm using the Aeroclub white metal .50s on my PT-196 build of the Revell kit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Chris & Lulu Langtree" Subject: WEM Colourcoat Paints Hi All For some reason Caroline asked me if I'd post my impressions of the WEM Colourcoat paints. I finally got round to using them and as AJ did a quick mention here are my impressions. For comparison purposes I used Humbrol enamels and an original set of Royal Navy paint chips from a 1941 report. I haven't seen the Synder and Short paint chips on which the Colourcoat series were based so my comments will be on the colours I have but John Synder informs me that they match the S & S chips exactly. Furthermore I've only used three of the six I've had so far, AP507A, AP507B and MS2. Both 507A and 507B are very good matches but I have problems with MS2. The shade used by WEM resembles 507B and is almost certainly wrong. The MS range was grey-green in nature and this is not reflected by the shade in the tin. MS2 also had a reflective value of 10%, the same as 507A, The colour should therefore be much darker with a green tint to it. Moving on to the useability of the paints, they spread well and dry quicker than the Humbrol paints with only two coats being necessary. They, are, however not as matt, comparing the reflectivity of the two sets of paints side by side will show this but this is not a problem as they are definitely a matt finish paint. Despite my reservations about MS2 I would heartily recommend these paints, a series based on actual RN colours is long overdue and WEM are to be congratulated for bringing it out. However, I recall reading a post on ModelWarships message board in August that Tom's Modelworks is coming out with a 1:350 hanger deck for the Tamiya Enterprise. Anyone know the details, no pun intended, of this release? Look forward to getting to know everyone here. Thanks. Mark -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Harold Stockton" Subject: Re: Revell Elco and 0.50 cal. Brownings I did not reply to this string because I thought that everyone knew about both white metal and resin weapons and PE detail sets for the 0.30 and 0.50 caliber Brownings. Aeroclub in England makes white metal sets containg two each of the following (price runs about $1.25 per set): G015 0.50 flexible G018 0.30 flexible G019 (BSA) 0.303 G035 twin 0.303 turret guns G036 twin 0.303 turret barrels Aires makes these items in resin and PE detail parts (it appears as if there are enough parts to detail either two or possibly four weapons, with a price about $5.00 per set): 7237 M2 0.50 flexible waist gun 7240 M2 0.50 wing gun Eduard makes a detail set, ED72055, for these weapons for about $5.00. I usually order all of my detail sets from Hannants at: http://www.hannants.co.uk/, though there are a number of locations and shops to order these items from. H. Mispelkamp Subject: Graf Zeppelin Air Wing update! Notice to all members of the Graf Zeppelin Air Wing group! I have just been informed by Caroline Synder (nee Carter) that our long-awaited resin beauties are ready to be shipped. I would like to ask all paid up members of this august group to ensure that I have your snail mail addresses. Please feel free to contact me off list. To anyone who is not a paid member of the group and wants to obtain these resin beauties, please order directly from WEM! Thanks again for your support and happy modeling! Who knows, maybe one of our Graf Zeppelin's with her intended aircraft complement will be featured in some of our more popular websites soon. Regards Sincerely Peter K. H. Mispelkamp -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "sell4853" Subject: Coastal Forces SMML'ers 1.Having recently been to Malta on holiday I found two ex Royal Navy MGB's up on chocks set in the corner of an old ex RN radio station near Kalafrana on the road uphill from the entrance to the Malta Freeport container terminal. Both boats were in a sorry state with diagonal hull timbers exposed and only the basic items of superstructure still remaining intact. They still retained their main impressive features. Being unable to get near them I could not get any good photographic shots to identify them. No markings were visible. In view of the recent SMML interest of Coastal Forces recently does anyone have any knowledge of these two craft, their identities or history?. Otherwise it will be next year before I can in investigate further on a return visit. 2. 30yrs ago the "J" class yacht "Lulworth" was being used as house boat on the river Hamble (near Southampton) does anyone know if it is still there? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Kenneth Ng Subject: Re: Model shops in Hong Kong Re Simon Wolff's question on model shops in Hong Kong, 2 of the better stocked ones are Universal and Contintental. Universal has 2 shops, one in the Winsdor Mall in Causeway Bay (tel 2577 5950), and the other on no. 63 Waterloo Road, Kowloon (tel 2714 1268). Continental is on Pak Hoi Street, near Nathan Road, Kowloon, quite close to Eaton Hotel.
