It could have been the old Lewis gun or the standard US Army M1917 ir M1919 (Field Manual - FM23-55) Al Ross -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Ken Youngstrom Subject: 3"/50 Mounts for Post WWII US/DD's Does anyone know of a source for 3"/50 mounts or components in 1:350 for 1950-1965 US DD's? I am building my first plastic (Tamiya Fletchers) after 30 years of wood, stick and strings. Still trying to cope with starting by going backwards, i.e., cutting off detail, ladders, hatches, chains. Feels like starting a race by running backwards for the first lap! But, boy, isn't PE a thing of beauty? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Randy Short Subject: WEM MS2 The MS2 color in the WEM Colourcats range is an exact match to an Admiralty Shade Card in my possession. The color is correct, for that card. There are inumerable variations in actual paints used, but this card was issued as a standard reference by the Admiralty, as to what the color should be. The local Hobby Lobby recently stocked up their ship collection with a number of box-scale kits from a company who's name begins with Z (sorry, can't ever remember to write it down so I can post it here), and features pics of Tamiya 1:350 kits. The selection appears to match those offered by Tamiya in that respect. They're all going for about $8, but I haven't bought any because I'm leary of what might be hiding inside those boxes. That and it's the dreaded "box scale" non-standard scale "uh, I don't know about this," fear. Keep wondering if perhaps what's hiding inside bears a resembalence to an old Lindberg. Has anyone here bought any of these and have any reports on them. Derek Wakefield -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Devin J. Poore" Subject: Adams class DDG kits I'm going to put information on Adams class model kits on the USS Barney (DDG-6) website. I am aware of and own the Skywave 1/700 and WEM 1/350th scale kits. I seem to recall, however, that Revell used to do a box scale version of this kit, maybe as a German variant? Am I correct in this? If so, how difficult is it to obtain this kit, and would it be useable for a United States version conversion? I know several people in the Barney association would like to build a model of their old boat, but find the Skywave kit too small to work with, and the WEM kit too intimidating. Thanks for any info, Devin Hi Devin, There's the 1/600 Rommel from Airfix as well, but that's been OOP for a while and may be hard to find now. Shane -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Peter Chant" Subject: Canadian Tribal Class Destroyers Can anyone help please, I am finishing a Canadian Tribal and would like to know the shade of light grey they were painted overall in about 1960. The preserved HMCS Haida has been re-painted in the early 1950's two tone grey, but her upperworks appear to be similar to 507C, would this be accurate for the end of her service life? The RN at the time would have been using the bluey Light Admiralty grey 697, but that does not look right.
