Today we remember all those who perished in the service of their respective countries. In Flander's Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and sing in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flander's Fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from flailing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flander's Fields, row upon row. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bryan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: CokerRE@aol.com Subject: Re: Turbina On a visit to Ireland this past May, part of the tour included the Parsons ancestral estate which had a museum to the many distinguished members of this impressive family. One section of the museum was dedicated to Arthur Parsons and his work in developing the turbine engine. On one wall was the well known painting of the Turbina running through the coronation naval review with security vessels trying to catch her when she came near the royal yacht reviewing the fleet. I believe this was the review upon Edward VII taking the throne in 1910. There was a well executed model of the Turbina among the display items as well as documents from developing the engine and its quick use in ships of the time including a large, sharp photo of HMS Dreadnought, I believe the first battleship to use the engine. PC Coker/Charleston -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Ron and Louise Crawford Subject: Re: Aviso Grille and Minensuchboot The Aviso Grille and the German minesweepers do not attract a whole lot of model builders. Grille was at one time Hitler's yacht and is probably not politically correct these days, and minesweepers are not on anybody's list of future best-sellers. If you can find them, Wiking Modellbau in Berlin and Kiel made very nice 1/200 scale models of both for the Navy. They were wood with metal and plastic detail parts. You can view surviving examples at the Marine Ehrenmal in Laboe. Wiking also made metal models of both in 1/1250, and those appear regularly on eBay. As a matter of fact I think both are now on offer. The easiest to find, and in excellent quality, would be the currently produced Neptun models in 1/1250. You can order at Wiedling Modellvertrieb on credit cards. I think there is also a paper "card" model available, but I would not inflict one on somebody who served in WWII. London" Subject: Re: Turbinia The Turbinia is in the Science Museum, Newcastle-upon-Tyne located at the south-east corner of the Town Moor just north of the city centre. The best pedestrian access is from the south via a tunnel which starts at the intersection of Claremont Road and Queen Victoria Road. There is a parking area off Claremont just west of the tunnel entrance. The nearest Metro station is Jesmond to the east. It an easy walk but pedestrians have to somehow get across the multi-lane Great North Road and I am not sure of the location of convenient crossing places. Perhaps there is a "Geordie" out there who can advise. It is many years since I visited the little ship.
