There are images of the memorial itself, some of the shells that were not used and the Yamato dockyards as they appear today. http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~un3k-mn/ren-yamato.htm Also if you are interested in being able to view Japanese characters and use the Japanese search engines here is a Microsoft link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ime/default.asp Regards, Evangelos Aragiannis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: SeaPhoto@aol.com Subject: Re: USS Oregon For those interested in the model of the USS Oregon at the San Francisco Maritime Museum, I have a series of photos posted on my website, Warship Models Underway. How do you avoid getting glue marks or fingerprints on plastic models? 2. What is the best glue to use for construction of plastic models? I have always used the tube stuff, but I don't like it as it melts the parts and smears all over. there must be a better way. Please help. Thanks IAAFru2@aol.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Ed Grune Subject: Re: US Wickes/British Town Class Destroyers Les asked >> Can anyone supply me with details of the colour scheme of these vessels whilst in US service immediately before the hand-over to Great Britain? from photographs, they appear to have light grey hulls and superstructures with large, white pennant numbers on the bows - but what deck colour? << Lets see if I can beat John or Caroline to the answer! These ships were painted in the standard US Navy interwar system - Standard Navy Gray #5 hull and superstructure. The steel decks would have been painted Standard Deck Gray #20. If I were John or Caroline I'd tell you that these colors are available in the White Ensign Colo(u)rcoat line of paints. But since I'm not, I won't. Ed (not John) Mansfield, TX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: US Wickes/British Town Class Destroyers Hi Les, The Towns were delivered in the standard USN prewar paint: Standard Navy Gray #5 (Colourcoats US 01) on all vertical surfaces, Standard Deck Gray #20 (Colourcoats US 02) on all horizontal surfaces. The hull numbers (USN terminology--they didn't carry pennant numbers until they were in RN service) were indeed white. A number of these ships continued to carry Standard Deck Gray #20 decks into their early RN service. Peter Hall is already working on a dedicated photoetch set for it, which should be ready by the time the kit hits the streets. The hull number was 837 and the ship was 401 ft. 2 ins. long and 51 ft. in beam. My question is: how would I go about finding the name of the ship, it's history and possibly locating plans for same? The spec book is hardbound, about 60 pages (single sided), includes the engine specifications, all stores required by the crew, and has all of the handwritten corrections and changes made to the ship. Each section is signed by representatives of Ellerman and Palmers. One note mentions that all details not covered are to be the same as the "S.S. City of Bombay" but that apparently is not the ship covered here. All and all very interesting. Thanks for your help in advance.
