I have a couple of rolls of 35mm photos I took a year or two ago. I had intended to scan and post, but never got to it. If someone wants to do that I would be happy to send the photos to them. I will check and make sure she is still there. There are a number of other ships, mostly MSTS ships in the river also. Sam Pullig -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Rod Dauteuil Subject: Re: Airfix 2002 releases >> AIRFIX will also be re-releasing the QE2 and a boxed set of four kits: DESTROYERS SET, 4-IN-ONE NARVIK, CAMPBELTOWN, HOTSPUR and COSSACK in 2002. << I'm not familiar with the HMS Campbeltown--Is that an old flush-deck 4 piper? I seem to recall Revell released their 4 piper as an American DD and also a British DD which I thought was the Campbelltown. Rod Hi Rod, Yes, the Airfix 1/600 HMS Campletown is the old USN 4 piper. She was part of the 50 old USN destroyers transferred to the RN. She was later used in the St Nazaire raid. Regards, Shane -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Masashi Ito Subject: Re: ICM Hood Kit Hi, About ICM's 1/350 Hood kit, Airandseamodels.com said in the current issue that the kit will not be released in 2001 nor in 2002, according to a "very reliable source in Britain." I don't want to believe this, but Model Ship Journal's statement which Leslie Brown told us! Does anyone know more about the kit?? I can't comment on the quality of this particular model from them. Most of the ones I have from them are pretty good though. Regards; Russ Smith -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: GRBroman@aol.com Subject: Skywave E-6 set I need some help from the collective knowledge of the listee's. I have a resin USS Omaha that I picked up at a swap meet in Omaha, of all places. In order to complete it, I need Skywave's USN pre-war (?) weapons set, I believe the number is E-6. I've looked in the Skywave catalogue and it's out of production, none of the distibutors have it in stock and I've not been able to find it at any of the local swap meets, as well as the US Nationals last July. Does any one know where I can find one? Thanks, Glen Broman -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: uss Arizona I was watching a little bit of Enterainment tonight this morning on TV & for the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl HArbour, on the History Cannel, there will be a special doco on the current status of the Arizona, & the preservation to try to stop the ship collapising on itself & flooding the area with the thousands of gallons of fuel left on board. They used special cameras & shows pics like the captain's jacket still hanging on its coat rack & looked all in one piece. It would be shame to see the Arizona collapse & end up nothing more than some rusted pices of metal sitiing under water & no one can view it..I wonder if then the memorial would still be as popular..i hope people would still go even it the old ship had collapsed. When i was there last year i think they said they expected something to happen within 10 years about the structure of the ship. The conservation project will have a report i think i saw within 5 years..trouble is, how to restore something like the Arizona, that doubles has a monument & a tomb??? Andrew (hard to believe 60 years, all the things that happend in '41..Pearl, the sinking of the HMAS Sydney/Kormoran..Tobruk..Barbarossa.. crete/greece & all the meetings that took place, many for the final time as many clubs are thining out due to old age of the members) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: annobon4@aol.com Subject: 1/700 Russian aircraft insignia Hi Guys Does any one know where I can 1/700 scale Russian aircraft insigna. You know the Red Star. Because of the Taliban War I'd like to try make a diaroma with 1/700 aircraft. Any help would be appreciated. Craig -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Michael C. Smith" Subject: USS Oriskany Oriskany is parked with the reserve fleet in Beaumont - we fly over it whenever we go to court down there, so I get to see it several times a year in varying light and depending on the flight path. It's clearly visible in good weather - all I can really see is that it has no mast and has a tan color to it from overhead- probably rust over faded paint, but distinctly not a clean light blue-gray. There is usually some kind of fleet reserve vessel beside it that is cleaner that you can compare it to, but it really messes up the view of the ship, especially when there is a little haze. At first I thought the aft part of the island had been chopped off, but I don't think so, anymore. The flight deck is absolutely featureless (the markings are probably covered with plywood panels, as the Hornet was) and from a lot of angles looks as though the angled deck has been removed. It is still there - I'm just saying it doesn't look like it is because the deck striping you're used to seeing isn't there. Next time I go I will try to remember to ask our pilot to give me a good view and take some photos - I think he's said he can get pretty close if I wanted some pictures. Michael Smith Marshall, Texas -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Marc Flake Subject: Trumpeter news For those of you who don't read the Steel Navy message board or Hyperscale, I thought I'd let you know that Trumpeter has announced the release of CVs 8, 9 and 10 (Hornet, Essex and Yorktown) sometime next year in . . . wait for it . . . 1/350 scale! I won't buy one right away. But I may be tempted to leave my preferred scale when Hobby Lobby puts them on sale for 1/3 or 1/2 off. In 1/700 there's a couple of New Jersey class battleships in 1980s configuration. Have not tried it, but looks good though expensive. http://todaysacrylic.com/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: arne.rolstad@aureus.no Subject: Problems with PE-sets Hi fellow shipmodellers...! I work mostly with 1/350 - 1/700 ship models and tend to find the gluing of PE-details such as railings-to-hull and 3D-catapults&cranes quite difficult. The problem is that CA "instant" glue isn't at all "instant" and I seem to have a problem in creating a solid bond. Have tried different de-greasing solutions but problem is reappearing. Anyone have a universal answer to this...? Best regards Arne Rolstad -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: "David Clark" Subject: UNIFORM QUESTIONS Greetings I am working on the Airfix MTB and RAF ASRL and a Flower Corvette and I have some questions about uniforms. In the movie "The Sea Shall Not Have Them", the Rescue Launch crew wear dark blue 'battledress' uniforms with 'submarine' pullovers, duffel coats and berets. Is that historically accurate? Were RAF issue steel helmets painted dark sea grey? The lifejacket featured on crew figures provided with the MTB and ASRL was used by Coastal Forces but was it also used Corvette crew? Modellers usually depict it as yellow but a photo in the Osprey Royal Navy book suggests that it may have been blue like the standard lifebelt. Can anyone advise? Was the RN 'battledress' uniform restricted to officers or could it be worn by ratings?
