Details, please! I need a kit of HELENA (CA-75). Hank -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Bob McDonald" Subject: Finials I've looked everywhere I can think of to find something even remotely resembling finials as discussed on this site. Apparently we don't have them in Australia. There was a company in the US with a website that sold different sizes for ship display. It was wooden shipyard, boatyard or something along those lines but again I can't locate it. Any ideas guys? A 15inch shell detonating the aft magazine, with flash running through the ship ignighting the forward magazine. The thought of this being the conning tower being found 1.5 miles from the ship. The ship was turning to port when hit so was probably only seconds from being safe from the hit which sunk her as they reasoned her side armour would of protected her. In all it was very interesting part 2 is next Monday at 9 PM. all the best graham -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: VonsGiftWorld@aol.com Subject: Yamato Hull question... Hello All, I am currently working with 1/350 Yamato/Musashi. (Converting the Musashi into a 1941 Yamato). To add to this slight monster, I am debating as to adding the armour plating to the hull using styrene strip. Having to taper the ends flush into the hull at bow and low stern, then adding rivets at the joints and welds. My question is this: is this too much detail for this scale and worth the extra effort. I have only seen the hull plating detail added to much bigger scales of the Yamato. Any comments or tips are welcome. Regards, Dan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Michiel Woort" Subject: Re: Revell S-boat This weekend I have had time to have a better look at the new S-boat and do some dry fit. As said before this is a late ware type S-100 class with a rounded cuppola-shaped bridge. More than 140 parts one sixs frames (one is doubled). The Revell instructions are good, 20 pages with 57 drawings. Revell had made the hull in two pieces and ther is one large after deck and one small foredeck. Those four parts fits nice. The bridge is made up in five big parts and several small parts. The weapons are two torpedo tubes (torpede G 7A) and good detailed, one 20 mm MG (Flak 38) on the forecastle, one 20 mm twin barrelled gun midships and one 37 mm (Flak 36) one the back. I have this information from the box and I can not check these guns with good reference. In my eyes they looks good. There are tracks for mines or depth bombs but none is provided. The three high speed propellors looks good. Revell had completed the kit with very nice detailed railings, anchers, etc. They also put a label of thread, but they don't put crewmembers in the kit. Altough you have the possibility to make four ships none is in camo. The decals themself are very basic (not so detailed as there new 72 scale aircrafts). The bow looks better than the airfix kit, and the hull measures just right in scale. When you look at both kits I think the Revell kit is the winner, but we must not forget that the Airfix kit is more than 20 years old now. I think it is also possible to use both kits and make an S-boot in the 1941, 1942 and early 1943 version, but for that you need more information. I will make an article of both kits in the dutch IPMS Magazine next year but I will wait for the WEM photo-set (end of January) till I start really building them. Wish all the SMML readers a Merry Christamas and a Happy New Year Michiel Woort The Netherlands -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "Francisco Javier Chaves Salarrullana" Subject: Kits for sale Hello all.
