Only the bulb was colored. All The Best, Caroline Snyder -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: dlfowler@apple.com Subject: Re: Yamato Hull question... Hello Dan and Devin, Devin's technique for making weld lines is a good one but unfortunately the Yamato has a riveted hull and armor with over lapping joints. If you really want to do the rivet plates, the method Dan described is about the only way but it is a lot of work and dificult to get right. There are no accurate hull plans of the Yamato to show the plating but you can put most of it together from several sources including Skulski's Anatomy of the Ship: Battleship Yamato. Good luck, Duane Fowler -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: dlfowler@apple.com Subject: Re: 1/700 scale russian insigna Hello Craig, Loren Perry of Gold Medal Models produces a set of decals with the Soviet stars in 1/700 scale. He also produces a flag set that includes the Soviet ensign and jack in several sizes in a "blowing" format. I produce a set of signal flags that includes all the Cyrillic character flags and special flags and pennants of the Soviet and Russian navy as well as the rank flags and ensign and jack in two sizes. All the flags and pennants are in a "flat" format. The sets are produced in 1/350 and 1/700 scale. I do not include any aircaft insignia with these sets. I also produce a set of ensigns and jacks of the CIS (former Soviet republics) countries in five sizes. Hope this helps, Duane Fowler Dunagain Decals US Computer Graphics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: Lighting Hi Devin, Unless you're going to have the case lights on 24/7, I don't think you have a big worry, regardless of the light source. I'd probably opt for daylight-balanced fluorescents (what I'll use when I light my display case). If nothing else, they should prevent yellowing of any oil-based paints. Roy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: HMS Hood I thought one option that was on the Reuters terminal here at work some time ago when they found the Hood, was that they think that a shell might have hit the loaded torpedo tubes that were prep'ed & ready to go, thinking they go "have a go" @ Bismark & the Prince Eugen. BUt with any past history, will we ever know, there was only 3 survivors from Hood & i re-call & i could be wrong which i am frequently that they just remember the scream of the shell & then waking up in the water..wasnt one approaching a door & the shell hit & he was caught by the door that blew him over the side & hence saved his life??? How many other mysteries of war will will be solved by guess work & computers & who is not to say they are wrong in the assumptions. Now think if they find HMAS SYdney , no survivors if they find the ship you put 3 or 4 experts in & whats not to say they come up with 2 different excuses why the ship sank.well thats my 2 bobs worth -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Dave and Shannon Lesko" Subject: Best PE for USS Arizona? I just purchased the Banner 1/350th Arizona and got the Gold Medal Models photoetch set for it. It's a real nice set that replaces the cranes, rails and ladders, details the deck boats and a lot more. Well worth the price of $30.00. Go to http://www.steelnavy.com and click on the links to find them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Derek Wakefield Subject: Re: USS Utah >> Anybody have a good source for a 1/350 scale USS UTAH, his seems to be the forgotten Battleship from Pearl.!! Also possible Florida, as this was the class, and could be converted. Also looking for R/C of same if any one know of source. << Odd...I was thinking about that myself the other day. Just remember....she wasn't a battleship anymore at the time of PH (ie, AG-16...target ship/AA gunnery training ship). Eh...so what...once a battleship.... There's a message up on the homepage at www.utah.org in which one of the Veteran Association members was asking about the possibility of a R/C Utah (but alas they don't have any funding for development). Would be an interesting model though. Derek Wakefield -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: HMAS Brisbane & Success Well Brisbane is getting closer to finishing. When i was on the harbour the other night, the old girl's bridge work is completely gone & a lot has been done to her. Not exactly sure how much is left to work on, maybe its all internal stuff left. Also HMAS Success looks like she has finished her refit from Captain Cook Dry Dock, see her from the office window, looking all cleaned up & the black hull riding high out of the water. They have even decorated her for Xmas, she has a Santa hat on her "golfball" dome, that sits about smack middle of her, above her refueling command position. Maybe you should go have a look at your navy yard & see if any of your country's ships have been deceorated for the festive season -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: "Edward and Eleta Malewitz" Subject: Re: Revell S-Boat >> Thanks to Michiel Woort for his report. Also, if you go to www.steelnavy.com and click on the "What's New" box, there's a good in-box review, including some scans of the sprues, instructions and decals. Was the Airfix kit an S-100 class boat, too? << I have an original Airfix S boat kit, which matches the Profile drawings really quite well. The Airix kit is of S-10, a very early S boat. Much of the criticism I've read seems to miss this important point. It is smaller than the later S-24... boats. You've, once again, come through brilliantly and I have access to a mail order site. Now all I have to do is build all these models.(157 at last count - 43 maritime) Bob Mac Duckman - surely you're thinking of the movie where the aircraft carrier goes through the time warp to Pearl Harbour. Attached is a photo of the USS Dealey given to my father by three American sailors on shore leave in Gibraltar sometime during the fifties. The names on the reverse are as follows:- Jim Gonos. Dean F. Lifford. Rollin (?) D. Eggleston. There are some initials after each name which obviously indicates a rank these are F.J.I., F.B.N., and F.T.2.?. The handwriting is a bit indistinct there is an address which is very brief and is given as C\o F.P.O., either NY, NY or it could be NJ, NJ. Can anyone through any light on the history of this ship, what the initials stand for and the F.P.O was it in New York or New Jersey.and the longest shot of all does anyone recognise any of the names? Thanks and Regards Ray Hi all, The photo has been uploaded to the Misc photos on the SMML site (URL at the bottom) in the Reference section. I'll have to talk to my webmaster and have him post it. Right now I have 3 hulls available, Baltimore class(square stern) but I can add some resin to the stern and give you a drawing if you wish to make a round stern CA-72 and up. Indianapolis with long focele but could be cut back to make Portland and the Brooklyn Class. Soon to have Arleigh Burk Flt. IIA for DDG-79 and up but could be used for DDG and up, all you would have to do is cut 5/16 of an inch off the stern and trim back the 01 level. Other hulls that will be available soon are CGN-9 Long Beach, CGN-38 Virginia Class.
