I picked up my copy direct from the publishers last Monday. I managed to get one of the advanced copies (they had four). The main bulk delivery arrived this week so should be on its way to the various retailers and mail order companies at this very moment. Out of interest, the paper used is a very thin, semi glossy paper, not at all like the heavy, matt paper I have in my AOTS Warspite for example. It clearly says revised on the front cover, but without the original to hand, I cannot see what the revisions are. Maybe they are just refering to the 1:400 scale drawing printed on the inside of the dustjacket. If the Hood AOTS on eBay stays well below £25 then it is probably worth it, as there appears to be very little if anything new in the reprinted version, with perhaps a slight negative in that I don't particularly like the paper they have chosen to use this time round. Still. All that matters is content. And that has to come with a huge recommendation. Thanks for posting this though. A few weeks ago I would more than likely been fighting quite a few people off in my attempts at getting a copy. Hi all, I have been working on the Banner kit and am using the Tom's modelworks brass. It fits perfect and many more details than the competitors. The price was right also. Have a Merry Christmas and happy modeling, The Wizard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Shirley Sachsen Subject: source for ships plans I found this site while looking for something else, and at first blush seems too good to be true. since they've not been mentioned on the list, I was wondering if anyone else knew about Maryland Silver and what sort of experience they had. http:\\www.marylandsilver.com mostly the plans available are Spanish/American War, WWI destroyers, and WWII submarines. those who were asking about the Oregon and minesweepers earlier may find a goldmine here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Ed Grune Subject: Tom's Modelworks 2002 Catalog Hello SMMLies I took Tom Harrison up on his end of the year special discount sale offer. The shipment arrived in today's mail. Included in the package was a printed catalog of Tom's current and planned releases for 2002. A couple of items caught my eye. I know that Tom is a member of this list. I hope that he can shed some additional information - for all of us. Item 4011 is German U-Boat (Type II and VII) and is priced at TBA. I have the Mirage U-571 sitting on the shelf as it cries for etched rails alond the deck edge and around the wintergarten. What will be included in this set, and when is the expected release? I would imagine that this kit will also fit out the Heller Type VII, the Planet Models Type II U-boats, as well as the Mirage Type II's. Items TMA001 through TMA006 are listed as 1:350 scale naval aircraft - "out of production while new brass is worked on". They include Hellcats, Avengers, and Dauntlesses (extended and folded wings) as well as a Kingfisher. The text goes on to say that future aircraft may include the Wildcat, Helldiver, and Corsair. Let me be mong the first to urge production forward on the Wildcat. The carriers listed in the Trumpeter product line will need this aircraft. Maybe there's room in the product line for a Devastator. I also note that the cover states that Tom's is "The home port for the only 1/350 WWII Essex kit." Inside its listed as temporarily out of production. Are their plans to reissue this kit? Researchers in Chicago suspect that lycopene, the pigment that gives tomatoes their red color, may reduce damage to DNA linked to prostate cancer, raising its potential as a therapy for this type of tumor. The findings, which appear in the Dec. 19 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, add to a growing body of evidence about lycopene's effects against conditions that include cancer and cardiovascular disease. << Aha, I knew it!!!! You are all protected as I have already consumed enough pizza to immunize a small army! :-) Regards, Bradford Chaucer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Mark Brown" Subject: Re: AOTS HMS Hood Hi, On the subject of the book "AOTS Hood", I received a reply from Conway Maritime Press stating that the book should begin printing in two weeks. Might be worth waiting for the reprint. Hopefully we should all be able to get it early next year.
